Garth
I am hearing all sorts of good things about this colt, who debuts Saturday at Del Mar. Apparently he is a very flashy worker.

Baffert is hitting at like 60 percent with debut horses the past couple years so this horse probably jogs if that is the case, even with the 1 post.

He was working with the horse that crushed on Sunday (Eight Rings) in very fast time, running nearly as fast as very nice 3yo sprinter Landeskog ran in the very next race at the same 5.5f distance.

Ran second should be okay going longer
Having Garcia up should have told you all you needed to know

Did you see the race, if that was a good trip not sure what you call a bad one.
The other horse might actually be pretty good as well.

I don't know if I'd say no excuse, he was hemmed in most of the backstretch after breaking from the inside post. Not ideal for a 2yo but you'd expect more given the hype.

He got an enormous hole. Should have won off.

Hole opened up was only slightly narrower than the RED SEA!

That feels short sighted. It is the first race. He beat all the others easily. What if the winner ran a huge speed figure? We're dealing with a bunch of horses that never ran before.

He got a great trip.
They're all young and you give them more than a single race to decide whether they're bums or not, but I don't consider him having an excuse. He just lost.

I'd disagree with great trip, but he very well could have just lost to a better horse today. I mean obviously better today, but maybe just better.

Baffert wins a lot first time out because he has so many good horses, but most of them are not fully cranked first time out.

yea, not sure I can agree with this one. They may not be fully cranked but in relation to some of the other barns that get good horses he cranks them more than those, combine that with extremely talented barn.
Its pretty amazing though how quick the jury is, didnt AP run like trash his first time out? Didnt Secretariat run off the board with trouble?
Not saying this horse is a future stake winner, in fact he could be a bum, but judging a 2yo as not being all that good after a 6 furlong sprint runner up finish seems a bit of folly.

By crank, I mean ready to run their best race 1st time out. Then if there is any improvement it will be slow and follow a more typical pattern.
When a horse win 1st out, you assume he was ready. Not necessarily so with Baffert. The horse may just be a monster.
