Los Alamitos can't afford to call days off since their meets are so short for thoroughbreds. Also didn't the GM of Los Alamitos used to be in charge of Hollywood Park? I read he's more of an old school guy who believes horses should run in all conditions, I believe they only stopped a race or two during a heat wave because the track was 115-120 degrees which was probably dangerous for the horses.

Just got my early PPs (no odds yet) for Opening Day......now it feels real.

Also, just want to say that the new carpeting in the casino area is gorgeous. It's all done in very interesting patterns.....sort of in a geometric design that matches up walkways, how wide the chairs are in an area, etc. Really a pretty neat idea and hard to explain. I will try to photograph it and post here.

Getting excited - opening day insight.
I'll give it a week before I start betting, but the work starts now.

Here is a link to BRIS At a Glance for OP at closing week last years, FYI....

Good luck all - should be a great meet.

Here is a pic of the hotel. Looks like the outside is complete as they were shooting for before live racing started. I’ll be there Friday to try and win some money.

I'm not sure I'll make it there this year, but "I'll be back".

I suspect they are going to have a huge meet.

Been OFF tracks first 3 days. Seems the Oaklawn expension has been to include more liberal dose of winners that numbers don't point out. Numbers excluding nice payouts, that is.

Look, I love Oaklawn, it's my home track and all, but all this other stuff they are doing is absoutely pointless if they don't upgrade their wifi situtation.

Your phone is unusable on the weekends. Actually missed hitting a race at laurel (race 7) on saturday becasue the cell tower was timing out and the wifi was unusable so i couldn't open my TVG account on my phone and I was already in line waiting to cash another ticket I had just hit at oaklawn so couldn't get to the teller. I missed out on the tri and the exacta which would have paid about $180

I don't understand the point of promoting oaklawn anywhere like they do, if you litearlly cannot use your phone when it's busy.

Thats just overall bad. Make all these new additions and cannot even fix the internet?

I guess people will now have to input their bets on a ADW or in this case TVG at home before they leave to Oaklawn

You'd have to speak to TVG people. And/or OP tech department. And I would do just that, in case they are able to offer any insight.

You weren't USING Oaklawn Anywhere. (app). You were using TVG.

I can tell you that there is absolutely zero problem using Oaklawn Anywhere while at Oaklawn. I used it all weekend and so did the gal sitting next to me using her Kindle. Without a burp. While I was THERE. A lot of people use other ADWs but while at OP but use Oaklawn Anywhere when at the track, since they live in Arkansas and are able to have it. Is that an option for you?

For Oaklawn Anywhere, make sure the App is updated to the latest version and be sure to clear history, cache and all that good jazz before logging in.

For your problem, I sometimes find it useful to switch my phone over to airplane mode, then wait a minute, then switch back over--- it seems to *reset* the network connections pretty well.

My only problems came when I was still at home, and not at the track and couldn't get the live TV thru twinspires on Sat. It worked fine again on Sunday though. It could have been a "saturday" problem who knows.

I would be interested to hear how your TVG app works at Oaklawn while onsite in the future. And if this was always the case.

I've never had an issue with wireless or using Oaklawn Anywhere in any of my trips there, and those are almost always the busiest days.

I live in Hot Springs and actually, there are days like this where I live. We are surrounded by mountains and where I am sort of dips down a little, geographically...... I am out by the lake........I can tell tell you that cell phone signals are not like they are when I'm in Wisconsin or Nebraska.

I have tried both AT&T as well as Verizon at my location and it doesn't seem to matter. i often wonder about this myself. Some days I also get a lot of dropped calls.

I suspect Oaklawn has plenty of wi-fi signal-boosting technology at their site, but since you speak the language, you might give their tech department a call and see what is going on on busy days. They need to know this. It could also be your provider, getting overloaded at a tower or something????
