Saratoga: Saturday, August 5

Race One:
1 Wants to go longer.
2 Moves outside (+); Jason Servis, first after claim (+).
3 Will be coming, on yet appears to need longer distance.
4 Can be "a player"; yet will need to get up in time.
5 Will be forwardly placed; at best, can be part.
6 Can’t rule out, but find hard to recommend; low % turf trainer.
8 May surprise…at a price; Hall of Famer, Castellano enhances.
11 Cuts backs (+). Johnny V. Worthy of consideration.
12 Wants to go longer. It would be a surprise

Race Two:
1 Good gate-jock. Lasix. Forwardly placed, but long layoff.
1A Paid huge amount at sales. Any-kinda-horse. At first asking?
2 Gate issues, made dicey from rail. Hard to recommend
3 Well-bred first-timer; Solid morning works. Watch board.
4 Must consider. Dynamic Duo. Will get distance (+)
5 Hard to judge, but would appear to want wet track.
6 I Like, I Like. (That’s You, That’s You). Solid trainer (limited barn); Top-flight jock.
7 Surprise factor. Can’t overlook. Looks on “the improve”.
8 Another horse I can’t overlook. Manny (Not Being Manny) at Spa

Race Three:
1 Put field to sleep, last time. Again?
2 Can’t overlook. Jockey change. Yes, can be there.
4 Morning line fave; can’t be ignored in multi-race wagers.
5 Capable. Rosario reprises. Can’t be ignored.
6 “Bridge too far”? Would be a surprise
7 Got “stuck in pocket” (DRF); Second in last. Possible.
8 Has been “on a roll”; yet moving into uncharted waters.

Race Four:
2 Can he get the distance?
3 Solid work-tab for trainer who does well w/first-timers
4 Turf pedigree; worthy of consideration (check tote).
5 I question the distance.
6 Ellis shipper; broke slowly, yet just missed (+)
7 Bill Mott doesn’t do well w/first-timers; yet solid grass lineage
8 Not sure what to expect; yet I’m intrigued. Watch board.
9 Not particularly impressed
10 Got caught wide in only start; stretches out. Powerful consideration.
11 Highly-priced colt w/solid turf pedigree; if he draws in?

Race Five:
1 Can be part but would like to go longer.
2 Won at first asking in U.S.; I can’t overlook.
3 Rider switch to Jose Ortiz…Huge. Another possible.
4. Beat weaker at CD; Hard to recommend.
5. Machevellian-bred (“Prince” of a colt). Merits serious consideration.
6. Appears overmatched here.
7. Solid turf record; could be a factor on best.
8. Hard to recommend; low percentage jock and trainer.
9. “Rusty” Arnold trainee appears overmatched
10. A “Sleeper”. Todd Pletcher trainees always catch my attention.
11. Will have to be all out to make lead. Poor post draw for running style
12. Good turf record, but I find him hard to recommend.

Race Six:
1. If rail is “the place”; otherwise, hard to bet first-timer from one-post
2. Impressive array of “bullets”; I have to sit up and take notice (watch tote)
4. Chad and Jose, solid combo. Highly-priced colt; solid “works
6. Hard to recommend; wet track would move up.
7. More turf than main; named for Manhattan eatery.
8. I wouldn’t rule out. Sharp work. Javier C. and Todd Pletcher
9. John C. Oxley paid 800-Eugene for this Tapit (Pulpit) Consider.
10. Steadied early in only start. Better post. Kiaran does well 1st time blinkers
11. Faded in last at 6/5; off that, I have question marks; yet I find him hard to entirely rule out.

Race Seven:
1. Second in both The Poker and Dixie; strong consideration.
2. Long layoff; yet this horse merits attention
3. Looks overmatched here
4. Might complete an exotic. Florent Geroux.
6. Ships in from France for solid trainer. Has a chance to surprise.
7. Hard to recommend; jockey: weak grass record.
8. Ships up from DP; I can’t ignore
10. Well-bred turf horse gets Johnny V.
11. Yes, this horse has a shot; yet, might want to go longer; overcome post
12. This horse will likely want the lead but will be hard pressed to get it.
Race Eight:
1 Appears overmatched but would benefit from a “live” rail.
2. Has won two-straight; yet she appears overmatched here.
3. An intriguing filly who’s won three out of four. How good?
4. A decided longshot who, at her best, might get part.
5. Doesn’t appear to be in the mix, yet in this wide-open race…
6. A definite reach. I find hard to consider.
7. Solid trainer; yet this filly appears overmatched.
8. I like. Ships in for Bob Baffert (good with shippers). A distinct chance.
9. It would be a surprise.
Race Nine:
1. Would benefit from moisture; otherwise, might pick up the pieces.
2. Might just complete an exotic.
3. Appears to be on the outside looking in; would be an utter surprise.
4. Not completely out of the question, yet appears overmatched.
5. Won The Suburban; yet may want to go longer. To complete an exotic…
6. “The Horse”. In his current form… Appears to tower over this field.
7. Looks overmatched against these.

Race Ten:
1. I find this filly hard to recommend.
2. Should be right there. Has been either first or second in most of her races.
3. Looks like an “also ran” here.
4. Might complete an exotic.
5. Won only U.S. race; would appear to be overmatched.
6. Does not look like a player here
7. Fits well in this stakes; a definite factor.
8. I would be surprised if she hit the board.
9. Will be out and going but appears overmatched.
10. Class drop for filly who appears to be in the mix.
11. This Irish-bred could be a surprise factor.
12. Has never raced on the grass.

Race Eleven:
1. Looks overmatched in this field.
2. Coming off long layoff; should not be a factor.
3. Jose Ortiz in the irons; trainer does well: route-to-sprint.
4. Would prefer wet track; would be big surprise
5. Returns to sprint off turf race; can’t completely rule out.
6. Would appreciate wet track; has faced better, yet coming off layoff.
7. Appears to be: “The Horse”; 3rd in Dubai. Todd Pletcher (does well with layoffs).
8. Might be a surprise factor here.
9. May just get part.
10. Seven panels appears to be a stretch.

Saratoga Saturday 8/5/2017

Kick-ass card today. Funny about all those scratches in race 10, for no apparent reason.

R1: With Exultation 15-1
Deep closer shortening up, one of my favorite angles. Trainer’s 24% off the claim and 25% with medium rest.

R2: Behavioral Bias 6-1
JJ onboard this 4th time starter who has fired in every race.

R3: Guilty Twelve 5-1
Another deep closer who’ll be shortening up( a little bit). Won her last 2, and 3 of last 4.

R4: Survey 6-1
Second time starter who’s stretching out to his natural distance. Royally bred for turf and distance.

<more coming>

R5: Vulcan's Forge 15-1
Todd Pletcher at 15-1? Are you kidding me? The guy’s so anal retentive over his win percentage, he’s not going to fire in the dark. 33% off a long rest too.

R6: Nightstrings 15-1
I don’t usually bet first time starters, but the workouts at Belmont impress me and at 15-1 why not? It is a maiden race..

R7: Aubenas 15-1
Euro shipper who won his last race in France. Trainer is 41% with firsters.

R8: Vertical Oak 8-1
Versatile filly can rate or win with the lead, an important factor in sprint races. Won 2 of last 4.

R9: War Story 6-1
With all of the big name who’ve been floppy this year, no way am I going to eat chalk here. Should be able to save ground on the rail. Hoping the 4 & 8 burn themselves out on the front.

R10: Bar of Gold 10-1
Irad aboard this 5-yr-old mare who got passed in the stretch last time. Here’s hoping he learned his lesson and doesn’t move too early again. Will be flying late.

All W/P Bets. As usual.

Saratoga Race #9. I am going to play the Proper Descretion. Cheap, outside draw forces the need to validate her running style, needs the lead. Switches to high percent trainer who wins at a 35% first off the claim, Kendrick is on and I am not thrilled about a lot of his mounts today, so if he wants a good check today this is his shot.

Oh, and did I mention that she will probably be 50-1.

Going turf first time too. Probably more like 99-1.
Not too many shippers from Thisledown win at Saratoga. Good luck!

Gee wiz fellas. How come you're not telling everyone what bets you're making? Apparently some idiots around here seem to think this is a betting forum and not simply a sharing of information forum.

And Teach, I'm surprised you're not being reprimanded by these same idiots for posting so many selections! Apparently they have a tough time realizing that there's much more to this game than just picking a Winner here and there.

Looks like I struck a nerve. Truth hurts, huh?

It's okay, on this forum you're in good company on the non betting stuff.
