Revelations with Handisearch
I am loving Handisearch. It's such a great tool for illuminating the most influential factors and their proper weights for Handifast.
I've finished the initial stage of using Handisearch and Excel to analyze the past 12 months of Woodbine. Some of my findings were quite surprising.
One of my surprising discoveries is that Bris Prime Power is only the 15th most influential factor during the past 12 months at Woodbine.
Even if Bris Prime Power was one of the top seven most influential Handifast factors at Woodbine I still wouldn't use it because it's popularity naturally lowers the odds on selections far too much. That's why I'm pleasantly surprised to discover that factor has little predictive power at Woodbine anyway so I can exclude it without reservation since I know I won't be lowering my hit rate.
Onward and upward.

Did you filter for just 1st place for finish position (then copy the filtered data to a new sheet) just asking because I come up with Prime Being one of the top predictors for Win?

Sorry but I'm not sure what you mean.
In Excel I removed every horse that did not win it's race and only looked at the 953 winners of the 953 races between July 1/2018 - June 30 2019. I then totaled the ranking numbers in every HF category for those 953 winners and with lowest numbers being best of course Bris Prime Power is 15th.
Since I've only done the initial stage of analysis, I don't yet know how the factor strengths vary at different distances/surfaces at Woodbine. It wouldn't be too surprising if BPP was a big factor in some situations.
And I fully realize 953 races is not that big of a sample so that naturally has to be taken into consideration.
I just thought it was worth noting that Bris Prime Power has been a mediocre predictive factor at best generally speaking over the past 12 months of Woodbine. At least according to my research.
But if I'm missing something please let me know because I want to learn.

I used (=countif(start range:end range,"<2") instead of sum to show how many times the top ranked won. However I also used the whole 2 years of winners not just last years.
Also broke it by distance, surface, purse.

My long and extensive work with HF finally came to an end last year..
Working with regression analysis , it determined that these set of factors are primal except for these few....
Most likely you can use this for every track....Dont expect more than what Joe Public predicts....
I post this as my closing present to the guys that started this....
Factor 1st column ............... Weights 3rd column
Thxs

Sounds like you know how to use Excel because I don't know what you just said. (=countif(start range:end range,"<2")
I've really just started using Excel and I mostly just use it to arrange data and then the sum or average functions. I look forward to actually knowing my way around it properly though.

No ..Thank you .....and the others...
it kept me busy and made me learn
regression analysis...which I use quite frequently now .....
The only thing I can suggest as a "play"
Is to look for post time odds of 3-1 or better on either top 2 choices.....
Feedback will be welcomed
Mike
