I was watching Pro Football Talk this morning and heard Laurel. On the local news, this afternoon I heard Yanni.I suspect the pulling of legs and yanking of chains is at work and both pronunciations are being played at different times.

I don't really hear either word, it's just that to me it sounds more like yanni than laurel.
According to the Youtube video, it is planted in your mind that it is one word or the other. If you just heard the sound out of the blue without prompting that it is one or the other, who knows what you'd hear.

I defied the age prediction as I heard "Yanni" and I am 57 and have ears with extremely high mileage. I have worked in noisy machine shops my whole life and rarely use hearing protection. My hearing is still better than most.

There is no question it's Laurel. Which is what I heard when I ran the test on my computer yesterday morning. But, I heard it again on the card radio later in the day and heard Yanny. Cool and weird at the same time.
