Excel Spread sheet for Harness Factor Ratings

TrackMaster, in combination with USTA Strategic Wagering Promo has free program race sheets for some Pic 4 and Pic 5 races. This attached spreadsheet can use them like the sheet I posted for Mohawk programs.
It can also work for complete, purchased Platinum programs as well, ....any track.

The free pages are found here.
http://handicapping.ustrotting.com/index.cfm

This sheet is in early stage of development. I have error checking turned on and it will be several weeks before the races have error-free usable data so just ignore the error alerts.
I'm posting it early to get feed back on problems or comments.

Friday's Scioto Pick 5 is loaded. Read the help section on the lower rows to see how to set up the required PDF reader if you want to load other programs.

Update

Thanks Postime & bobbyb

An updated SpreadSheet is attached.
I trapped some Divide by 0 errors and changed Impacts to closely resemble the best settings I've found for Mohawk.
I have 2 years of Mohawk Programs and results, but with TrackMaster USA Programs I'm flying blind.

Oddly enough the sheet won't work with the complete program found at Scioto's site, It's a platinum TM program but copy not allowed and I'm too cheap to buy one at TM to check.

Factor Impacts
TM Post Bias....5
Driver UDR......2
Trainer UTR.....3
Early Speed.....4
TM Power........1
TM Pace.........1
TM Speed........1
TM Class........1
Earn Last5......1
2yr Wins........2

Tonight's SpeadSheet Picks for Pick 5 at Scioto
I'll go with the top 2 in each race for a $16.00 ticket.
R5.. 1,5,6,9
R6.. 6,1,5,3
R7.. 9,5,10,3
R8.. 4,5,1,9
R9.. 8,1,10,5

Good Luck All

New spreadsheet looks great Ray! Any plans for a 'Trip' factor like the last spreadsheet?

Thanks Longshot6977

It would not be that hard. The data is already gathered in the Early Speed Factor.

The Early speed factor uses the average call difference from gate to the half pole, last 5 starts.

The Trip Factor bonus is set by the number of Leavers in the race (best Early Speeds) and then:
No leavers or 3 or 4 or more means the bonus goes to the closer with the best speed.
1 or 2 leavers gives the bonus to the fastest leaver.

The new spreadsheet looks great Ray. I like the formatting colors too. I'm sure after I use the sheet many times, I can figure this out, but I'll ask now. Can you tell us the cutoff values you used to change a color from dark green to lighter green to light yellow to etc? And also for the right hand column (Ratings with Impacts).

I ask because I see a light green 11% as well as a yellow 11% on the sample sheet. Thanks.

I used the default setting for Excel's 3 color scale.

Here is Microsoft's explanation for this scale.
  • Explanation: by default, for 3-Color scales, Excel calculates the 50th percentile (also known as median, middle value or midpoint). The cell that holds the minimum value is colored red.
  • The cell that holds the median is colored yellow,
  • and the cell that holds the maximum value is colored green. All other cells are colored proportionally.
Each factor has it's own color scale so what is light green in one factor may be a different shade of green in another factor's scale.
It's possible to set up your own scale rules but I never tried that.

I think he answered that in the original post #1. Yes, it can.

Yes, it will work with the full Platinum program, the one which has the TM file name ending with..... 'x.pdf'

But I wasn't thinking "Northfield" when I started writing it so it only shows the first 12 races.
I'll expand it to show the late races for that track later, just needs more option buttons, the data is being read in.

Why they do 16 race cards is beyond my bedtime anyway.
