Charles Barkley
Saw/heard this interview today and was wondering if people will go after Charles for sharing his opinions on this matter as they differ from the PC attitude.

Nothing Charles said is untrue. People like Jesse and Al and Barack live at the feeding trough Sir Charles is describing. Always refreshing to see that some in society still keep it real.

Statements like that from people like that will do monumentally more for people than all the patronizing platitudes and victim nonsense combined. Good for him, someone give him a show.

Others like Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams have said the same thing. But as academics and known conservatives, they are dismissed as Uncle Toms. (No offense, Tom.)
Seems to me I have heard some similar rants from Bill Cosby in the past also.

The problem to some degree comes from the political left. Instead of criticizing aspects of the black community and culture that are self destructive, they prefer to play the victim card because then they can say "we are here to help and protect you from the bad guys that are keeping you down". That gets votes. If you work to improve the culture and over time it leads to superior results, you are losing voters.

Charles is lucky he was born with physical talents.
Else he wouldn't be in a position to lecture anyone.

Blacks tend to be less sophisticated, less educated, and lower information voters, according to a taxpayer-funded Justice Department expert in a voter discrimination case in NC.
Quote:
It's also the case that -- well, yes, so it would, empirically more likely affect African Americans. Also, understanding within political science, that people who register to vote the closer and closer one gets to Election Day tend to be less sophisticated voters, tend to be less educated voters, tend to be voters who are less attuned to public affairs. That also tells me from the literature of political science that there are likely to be people who will end up not registering and not voting. People who correspond to those factors tend to be African Americans, and, therefore, that's another vehicle through which African Americans would be disproportionately affected by this law.

Charles is lots of things, but honesty is maybe his greatest attribute.
His golf swing may be outlawed in 5 states.............. but he speaks the truth!

Yea, the guy is intelligent and charismatic, but let's face it, he's rich and famous because he was 6'6 250 and a tremendously gifted athlete.
The idea that we should care about his opinion because he happens to be famous is silly(as is the idea that we should worry if his opinion is PC). However it's the norm in our media driven society.

Who, praytell, then is anyone going to listen to? The parents? If they were around and giving advice worth heeding, then okay. The clergy? Again, great I suppose if we assume that there are a lot of young black men hanging out there. Revrum Al? That's going well. Face it, these guys emulate who they associate themselves with - Snoop Doggy Lion and NBA superstars probably leading the league in that category.
If that's who they will actually maybe listen to nine times out of ten, those people might as well give good advice for a change.

Thanks for posting. IMO Charles would've done just fine for himself in life even if he never touched a basketball as good deportment and a good work ethic go pretty far in America these days. Not to trivialize the challenges a lot of these kids face but with little more than those two qualities it's far easier than they think to make it to the middle class. Now upper class is a different story, to a large extent many are only there on the coattails of the previous generation -- no matter what race they are. They'll take him apart for this but he's keeping it real -- way to live.

So, that's what makes him a role model?
I drive while drunk, get blow jobs from hookers, am a degenerate gambler, used to get into fights with other players and spit on fans...but, hey, at least I'm honest about it.
