You think when racing stops in California they will just migrate over here to Arizona

Agreed. If Andy is right that they are avoiding SA for this reason, that's legitimate. If they just think they are cooking their horse too early for the Derby, that's silly.

They are probably still stinging from when they sent Funny Cide out there and he ran up the track.

Between Maxfield and TTL, I think that TTL would be a better fit at SA because of running style. But we will not see those two hook up until next year, mabe not then either.

Tagg told Steve Byk today that the BCJ was a bit to soon and he was a little concerned about the SA track. As for Maxfield his running style could be an issue but it wasn't at Keenland which typically very kind to on or near the lead types.

East coast dirt horses generally haven't had a huge amount of success in CA Breeder's Cups even going back to before the synthetic period. You can always find exceptions, but I think of a couple of years that were pretty much debacles even though they sent some good horses out there. Maybe some people have long memories also.

Typically sure, but it really wasn't on opening weekend.

The last one at Santa Anita had two winners in Tamarkuz and Classic Empire. Del Mar two years ago had Good Magic, Gun Runner, Bar of Gold, Caledonia Road, and Forever Unbridled.

Vino Rosso went out there for a win over Gift Box.
Chad started doing it more frequently with turfers also.
Maybe the tracks are different these days and people shouldn't feel the same way about it, but you still see less east-west shipping than the other way around. Some of it is probably related to that back record of it being the tougher ship.

And Gift Box went out first and won.
The tracks are definitely different, both Santa Anita and Del Mar. They are much slower than they used to be. Trainers are always the slowest to catch on, most anyway.

Juvenile is a big race, but from my view; Tiz the Law would not fare well.
A premature roll of the dice could even upset the forward momentum.
Potential is there, will be fun to follow whatever path.

These EAST vs. WEST sort of things get complicated in the Breeder's Cup races, with all the various factors, and at times more adversity in various stages of the pace/race.
When a horse ships this way, or that, for a random seasonal Stakes race, the surface condition,jockey/trainer colony, shipping effects, etc... are more clearly significant. IMO

Shippers do quite well in California BC dirt races.
In this decade horses shipping in to Calif. have won 23 of 38 BC dirt races.
