The NBA Has Gone Off A Ratings Cliff
https://www.fitsnews.com/2021/05/24/...ratings-cliff/
The 2021 NBA All-Star Game received a record low 5.943 million viewers across TNT and TBS.
Since 2019, NBA broadcasts on ABC, ESPN (and) TNT are down 25 percent.
I love it!
I haven't watch a second of NBA either regular season or playoffs. Maybe if this keeps up, we can get politics out of pro sports. Would be wonderful.

The NBA isn't really basketball anymore. I am not sure what it is, but it's not the hoops game I know. Traveling every play, high pick-n-rolls to free 3 pt shooters, absolutely no defense allowed. Booooooooring. Remember when reaching a 100 points was a high scoring game? What do teams average now...120????? And with my Bulls being a joke of a team under Reinsdorf ownership and Paxson's (mis)management there hasn't been any joy in the Windy City for a long, long time.
Add in politics and there is absolutely no reason to watch professional sports. It may sound silly, but I care more about my Madden team than the real Bears (although certain agendas still find there way into computer games too. ) There are plenty of very good computer sports sims to pass the time and replace watching sports on television.
Ratings being down is a good sign. Let's hope the trend continues.

Last year was even worse to watch, when they were in the bubble. I normally will bet NBA playoffs. I had zero interest last year. But like Headhawg said, absolutely zero defense is played. It's difficult to watch.

I agree with all of this. A Larry Bird or Reggie Miller would go wild in today's game. Lol, Reggie might have 15lbs more muscle, and hair! in today's NBA...
It's an offense free for all, and you can shoot 10 3s without a coach even flinching.
On defense, with the way the refs call it, and the way the offensive players are allowed to run with the rock and initiate contact... Real DEFENSE is both often impossible and often penalized.
and Ralph is right. Twitter is a hotspot for NBA fans who follow the games, not always on a TV set.
Changing technology. Not quite as steep as I remember collecting 'CDs' for music, and then everyone got music online.

The Three Point Shot has ruined basketball, period.
I've come to hate the game, even on the college level (the one & done has killed college hoops for me...no continuuity or player development).
I only watch when I'm in the company of a good frined who loves the NBA. Only team I enjoy watching are the 76ers because they have throwback type players in Embiid and Simmons.
Embiid actually plays the low post with his back to the basket, and Simmons is an old school dribble drive take it to the hole guy (ala Adrian Dantley).
The rest is garbage IMO...this is what happens when you let the players run the league.
The NFL had better be careful as they are moving towards the "more scoring is always better" philosophy, like the NBA and MLB.

There's only 3 teams that I see playing good defense that will win in the Finals....
Milwaukee, Atlanta and Phoenix....The rest have no shot.

I also hate the 3point shot
They should limit how many you can sink.
I saw a clip the other day talking about Pete Maravich. Somebody went back and charted all of his games. If they had the 3 point shot for his whole career he would have averaged 57 points a game.
Imagine that……….

I was born and grew up in Philadelphia, and even though I live in central FLA these days, i'll always be a Philly fan.
Even though I haven't watched the 76ers, I've been following them, since they have been doing pretty well lately.
Embid & Simmons are throwback players. Great defensive duo. Another is Tyrese Maxey, who comes off the bench. In one of the earlier playoff games against the Wizards, in five minutes he had five blocks and four steals.
But even before the playoffs started, I was kind of glad that I wasn't going to watch because I just knew that either Embid or Simmons would end up getting injured. And wouldn't you know it, Embid gets injured in the fourth game. Happens every year.

Three points should be given to the team when its player sinks a 3-point shot...and one point should be taken away if the player misses. That should fix up the 3-point shot problem in today's game.

Its racist to criticize the NBA. Ratings aren't important if sponsorship stays plugged in.

Move the 3pt line out to 30 feet. If guys can make if from there regularly, I tip my cap. Rebounding and an inside game will become more important when the 3pt% is hovering at 22 for the best shooters.

Getting rid of the corner three would help a lot I think, that is where the best percentage is for nearly all shooters. It is too short to be rewarded with 3 points.
