If we could safely have every race be a 14 horse field of closely matched horses, I think that would be great, even though such races would be very difficult to handicap.

What's the most bet race of the year? The Kentucky Derby, with 20 lightly raced horses. Bettors love a difficult puzzle.
Ridiculous

GP Turf

I see they started early June and took away the outer area of the grass course.
Anyone know how much? I mean in terms of what temp rail settings are gone?
I want to flag those no longer used in my db so I don't use those stats going forward.

In my experience, from walking on all 3 surfaces, the tapeta acts more like turf. When you are walking on the dirt, its not unlike walking on the beach. You're foot isnt solid on the ground, it moves a bit. Its also tiring. With the tapeta and the turf, your foot pretty much stays where it lands, so you bounce off it easier. Could explain the closer finishes with Tapeta in that I dont believe horses get as tired on it.

Ive raced at GP for about 20 years now, and it will be really interesting seeing how the Tapeta goes. If my horses on the dirt arent front runners, they come back to the barn after a race absolutely full of dirt in their eyes and nostrils. Riders on stalkers and come from behinders try and stay out of that dirt if at all possible. Ill probably sit back and watch a few weeks of races before trying it.

The racing se retry has two choices. One, spread out the grass races to give the turf more recovery time. Two, write fewer turf races.
Currently there aren't any strains of warm season grasses available that root deeply enough to withstand the tearing horse's hooves cause to the shallow root systems of the turf types used in the South
Not being a homer but isn’t the Tampa turf pretty highly rated compared to GP?

In regards to Gulfstream, how does one get access to the seating on the second floor and how much does it cost? I’m kind of sick of being relegated to the first floor all the time, I’m not a railbird type of guy. Lol

Does tapeta surface throws anything at the horses behind as they race?

It does, but not as much or not as stingy as the dirt/sand.

Thxs Carn....

I'd like to see how popular regular turf horses will take to it...or even try.

When I went several years ago you bought those seats for $8 from a ticket booth on the apron.

The problem has arisen because the rail for the new course has not yet arrived from the U.K. and has been stuck in customs.
