fractions in yesterday's 3rd at Del Mar

This was a 7 furlong claiming race.

21.09, 42.79, 1:07.46, 1:20.66

Are these right? I have been going to the races in Southern California for decades and I have never seen a 42 3/5 half mile in a 7 furlong race. Not even Spectacular Bid ran that.

Sounded like there was a very strong tailwind on the backstretch for that particular race

If it was just a tailwind on the back stretch, how come they came home so fast into the headwind?

That's "Frahn-ken-steen".

(Or in John Lies' case, "lees".)
