New York Mayoral race
just wondering if anyone knows how the voting works there? from what i am hearing on television is that you can vote for the guy (or gal) as your first choice, but you also have to make a second choice and then they somehow combine the 2. it will take about 2 weeks to figure out who actually won the election..
i notice that no one was taking action on this mayoral election, and really wonder if bookmakers are going to book bets on any election in the future in this country.
the bookmakers got stung big on the recent Israeli eletion.

Good to see Eric Adams came out on top solidly in the first round. I have no idea how this works...it's more convoluted liberal bullshit.
Eric Adams, by all accounts, is a law and order Democrat. Imagine that...

He's just another "woe is me, because I'm black" successful African American.
He accused a Latina and an Asian of conspiring to prevent him from winning because of his skin color.
"The ugliest stretch of the contest came in its last days, as Mr. Adams declared that Mr. Yang and Ms. Garcia were seeking to prevent a Black candidate from winning by jointly campaigning together.
His allies went further, claiming without evidence that the actions of those candidates amounted to an attempt at voter suppression."

Nothing will change if he becomes Mayor.

NYC is going to hell in a handbasket. NYC is on the road to becoming Detroit, Baltimore, or some other formerly great but now shell city. Everyone I know wants out and is either moving or looking for a new place to go.

A small group of candidates will make tons of promises and pander to various demographics. One will eventually garner more votes and become mayor.
Then they will ignore everything they promised and pursue their own interests.

I wouldn’t say Baltimore was ever great. I was born here and although I’ve left a few times, I’ve always maintained close ties and it’s been pretty bad my entire life. I guess some people would say that Baltimore wasn’t too bad when gm and bethlehem steel were thriving but that ignores the heroin then crack epidemics.

Let's suppose there are five candidates: Adam, Baker, Charles, Davis, and Edwards. When you vote you rank your choices in order indicating your first through fifth choices.
First round: Edwards comes in last and is eliminated, leaving four candidates. All ballots cast for Edwards are now recounted but looking only at the second choices. Those votes are then given to the remaining candidates.
Second round: Davis comes in last and is eliminated. All second choice ballots cast for Davis are now recounted bu looking only at the the third choices. Those votes and then given to the remaining candidates.
Subsequent rounds: The process is repeated until only one candidate remains and he/she is the winner.

I'm not certain but I think there is a Federal law against making book on elections.
