I reserve all judgement on his actions until the full story comes out. Frankly though, I expect the full story to be buried.

So do I. Find it really hard to believe they thought Genting was going to shell out 4 billion dollars for this master plan without any assurances of exclusivity. I guarantee the Vegas people won't either despite the fact that they say the casinos are lining up to do this.

Kremer Redux

Commentary: State takeover marks new chance for NYRA
by Jerry Kremer June 08, 2012
Quote:
… Cuomo has taken a dramatic first step toward reforming a body that was archaic and anything but transparent. The next three years will be a test for NYRA and a lot will depend on the quality of the people appointed to the new board, which will consist of 17 members—the chairman and seven board members chosen by Cuomo, five appointed by NYRA, and two each appointed by the state Assembly and Senate.

It was a gutsy move on the part of the governor, because his predecessors have not wanted to challenge the entrenched racing elite who controlled NYRA in years past. If this current incarnation of NYRA is not a success, the only logical next step is for the state to take over the association on a permanent basis.
In a an audience-expanding move from the “LI Herald” to the “Thoroughbred Times,” Mr. Kremer continues what appears to his campaign for a Cuomo appointment to the NYRA board with another editorial written prior to IHA's scratch in the Belmont. Below, is the bolded addition to his bio.
Quote:
Jerry Kremer served for 23 years in the New York State Assembly, with 12 years as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. In 1986, he steered the legislation authorizing the extension of NYRA’s state franchise and Kremer was active in all aspects of racing legislation during his tenure. He currently serves as chairman of Empire Government Strategies.
His remarks at the link suggest he didn't or couldn’t see the problems presented by NYRA at the time he was responsible for taking action. Why expect him to do so now?

Kremer Interviewd

Former lawmaker recalls NYRA's legislative history
Kremer says "NYRA will never run tracks on their own again"

As for the decisions the state has in store in the next three years, Kremer thinks rumors of the Aqueduct track being put out of use because of its vicinity to the more prestigious Belmont are misguided.

"The Aqueduct track is linked to the casino and it has to exist," says Kremer. "If Genting could, they'd like to see casinos at all three tracks."

Genting is a Malaysian-based gaming company in line to build the nation's largest convention center at Aqueduct before plans fell through and is rumored to be in the running, "along with Churchill Downs," according to Kremer, to buy out the racing franchise from the state before the end of the three-year "reorganization period." …

They put on a great show Saturday, despite the interference of NYS.

Best part about it was Baby Mario didn't show up.
You smell it in the air...or rather, you couldn't smell him in the air.

More genius. Genting was offered the NYCOTB and wasn't interested. Why would anyone think they would actually be willing to do the work to put on the show when they weren't willing to take the free cash the OTB system would have offered.

No. Charlie Hayward said it publicly at the meeting of the Fan Advisory Board at Aqueduct this spring.

Thank you. Any further information you may be willing to share that subject would be appreciated.

Kremer has a website too

http://jerrykremer.com/blog/

which links to his TTimes editorial and

http://jerrykremer.com/nbc-nightly-news-with-chuck-scarborough-interview-with-jerry-kremer-on-nyra/

NBC Nightly News nterview – June 11

Check out his answer to “Where did the money go?

Had to laugh when the interviewer asked “What was going haywire there?”

What went haywire was the wayward Hayward’s highwire act over too high takeout which took him out when his email got hotwired.

This tells you exactly what the politicians will do if they feel that racing is not putting enough money in coffers and that is raise takeout. Clearly according to him they made $8.5 million by raising the takeout. Thus not only does he have no idea how simple economics works but also how simulcasting contracts work either.

Or is Scarborough an earthquake guy? I can't remember which natural disaster he considers his forte...Now that I think it, it might be earthquakes...

Whatever it is, he needs to stay off the horse racing stories (not that there are many of them...)

Scarborough is a disgraced former Republican congress from Florida. He was bought in as a token conservative on the very liberal MSNBC. When Don Imus was given the boot, he ended up with the morning slot. He has shown himself to be a total idiot on a wide range of subjects, not just horse racing.

You're talking Joe, they're talking Chuck. Slight difference.
