Filming the Building Process
Intend on my son taping the construction of our new house. Need advice on what camera to buy. Presumably, should acquire one with both tri-pod and hand-held options?
Have arranged for Amish to put up the frame.

A simple cell phone video will work. If he can or will drive by daily, and record the progress. There will be days that nothing or very little gets done, and there will be days that a iot gets done.
The video i want to see is when you stop by, after the "next" phase is completed, and have a cooler of beer for the crew that was working that day. Make sure there is audio.

Shane will be there for most of the process as "videographer" and gopher. I will serve as gaffer, best boy, caterer, chauffer, and official provider of beer.

And then there will come a day. You will be sitting in your chair, or on your couch, or on your deck. You will look around you, and smile. Enjoy that day. And maybe, think of this song.

The house I bought 6 yrs ago here in Texas was a spec home that was 90% finished when we toured it. After I moved in a neighbor Came by (retired guy from a street a few blocks over) and offered to sell me a CD of the building process.
I popped it in my computer and was very surprised to see the quality of the pictures and the important points that he had pointed out on the videos on the CD. Stud locations, wiring, and ventilation etc was all there. I paid him $50 bucks for the CD
In the last six years I’ve used it about five times to look behind the walls basically before I did something. It came in very handy when we added on our sunroom and deck. The contractor was able to plan electrical extensions and plumbing with knowledge he would not otherwise have had.
I thought it was a great idea for the guy to think of it.
Digital video is cheap to archive. Don’t skimp

Could you explain a bit on how that works?
Do they work off your plans or general dimensions?
I’m familiar with barn raisings. Is it like a community thing, or is this an Amish company doing the work?

Video. Always video.
It is especially important that you do lots of walk thrus before the walls are closed up.
We did it when the crews went home for the day about 2 times per week and always at least once on the weekend.

Don’t forget to check HVAC vents often. They like to throw trash in them......also under the SOD.......but I’m guessing Amish builders might be a little different

John Lennon and Yoko Ono made a short film in 1971 titled Erection. It's on You Tube. I think they locked down a motion picture camera pointed at a construction site and took one frame per day. They might have used a still camera and spliced the film together into a movie.

Tx, guys. If you get a shot, go to "House Plans Collection" and look up plan #141-1318. After weeks of searching (and waffling), I purchased that design yesterday.
The house will have 3 bedrooms , 2 baths, and a 2-car garage. It seems perfect for us. But I have no frame of reference to envision 1800 square feet, and am thus uncertain if it will be bigger or smaller than what I expect.
Also, I had decided on a metal roof, but my brother advised against that, citing that the material would trap any potential fire inside, which could prove lethal.

Canon, Nikon, Olympus you cannot go wrong but my favorite has always been CANON.....
Make sure you get one with 15 megapixels...allows for BIG blow up without much loss of image
Here are some.
