"There is no specific evidence to suggest that the wearing of masks by the mass population has any potential benefit. In fact, there's some evidence to suggest the opposite in the misuse of wearing a mask properly or fitting it properly," Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the WHO health emergencies program, said at a media briefing in Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday.

I have never seen such disparity from one community in my life, and that includes horse racing.

Virus like pandemics are not new yet its like they have never seen something that can be spread like this virus.

Gee, I guess I over simplified. They did less than 1/10th the mitigation measures of their Scandinavian neighbors, whose daily and overall deaths are 1/10th of Sweden's. Guess I am reading too much into what according to their country's chief epidemiologist, was his almost hands off approach.

Like your approach of doing almost nothing.

Absolutely correct.

They are going by unproven antibodies and even using those stats Stockholm has achieved only 7.3 % as of May 20. At least 60-70 percent of the population would be needed for herd immunity to work. According to the same source, NYC, 19.9% has been reached. Interestingly NYC did better with extensive mitigation measures

Even if these antibodies prove reliable, looks like herd immunity is a long haul.
Usually vaccinations ease a population into it.

I was born during the years that polio was at it's worst. Parents were not taking kids to pools, playgrounds, movie theatres, and pretty much all public places duriing several summers.

What is interesting is that what encouraged people to subject their kids to Salk's Polio vaccine was the fact that, he gave it to his own children.

His son, Peter now recalls: "my father came home with polio vaccine and some syringes and needles that he sterilized on the kitchen stove, boiling them in water, and lined us kids up and then administered the vaccine."

This was basically, a human trial. 2 million parents felt safe to give their kids the vaccine because Salk gave it to his own children. I found it fascinating that he believed enough in his vaccine to do this.

And 2 years later, 1955, nearly two years after the Salk kids got their shots from Dad, the vaccine was declared "safe, effective and potent." and indeed, polio was pretty well conquered by the early 60s.

So, we need some trusted candidates to take the first covid-19 vaccines, to take it, and give it to their kids.

I would pick from the topmost leaders of our nation, and filter for those who support whatever vaccine is put forth.

Let them show The People they have confidence, like Dr. Salk did, before asking others to be guinea pigs.

Anyone in the top ranks who says they believe in any certain vaccine, line 'em up in a vaccine ceremony IF they say they have a vaccine they support. POTUS, the VP, Biden, every governor of each state (red or blue), and every mayor of each state (red or blue). Then add in the top epidemiolgists There you have it.........let the so called "leaders" pave the way for our first covid vaccine and show solidarity and faith.

(the ones who don't believe in a certain vaccine are exempted from this exercise).......they can be test subjects for whatever one comes along that meets their approval.
