I'd suggest the hotels along Huntington in Arcadia.

If you're in decent health, the track is indeed walking distance. Or a very cheap uber.

After the races there's the Derby, a fun cigar lounge, a good microbrewery (Mt. Lowe) and other decent stuff nearby. In-N-Out burger and plenty of chains and breakfast places.

Embassy Suites.

Unlimited drinks in the lobby at happy hour, and it shares a parking lot with the Derby restaurant, so you can stagger back to your room after dinner.

Sorry to resurrect this thread a bit, but tacking onto this, I will be coming in for the Santa Anita derby. Still also deciding where to stay, but was curious as to recommendations for where to sit? Will be going with my wife, so was looking at Turf terrace but is the view too far past the finish? Would prefer outdoor seating.

IMO the outdoor areas ARE too far towards the clubhouse turn--we used to get clubhouse boxes near the wire but that area was cannibalized for luxury suites. They will probably have some kind of apron food & drink event; if you arrive fairly early you can grab a shaded table and as it usually includes clubhouse access, you can walk up to the clubhouse to watch the races from the main aisle.

I tend to agree.

The best clubhouse seats/boxes are reserved for owner/trainers, and they sity empty 90% of the time. On Derby Day they will be full.

check out vrbo/airbnb and rent a house/condo

save you money and will be 100000x better than a hotel room

I'll see you boys at the BC later this year ... I'm quite happy at least this year, it returns to Santa Anita.

I've attended seminars at the Courtyard by Marriott just down the street; it's like other Courtyards across the country, so it's nice/consistent.

I know there are some Marriott properties in Old Pasadena, in addition to the Westin in Pasadena.

RE: what airport to use -- definitely Burbank or Ontario if you can help it.
