Closing Night Photos at Pompano Park

It was a fun yet sad night last night at Pompano Park, but Gabe Prewitt and the Pompano team went out with a bang! The handle $1,430,824 was the third highest in track history. Wally Hennessey came back to the winners circle after winning the 14th race with Panocchio à la Hervé Filion, standing in the sulky back to the Winners Circle! Not only did Mr. Hennessey win the last three races, but he was so gracious and kind with the fans, taking pictures and signing autographs for anyone who asked. Our Suff and Jason Beem were also there to take in the final program!

After the last race was over, they showed a tribute video thanking all of their loyal employees and allowed people to take one last lap of the track and say goodbye. The last race went off at 12:25 AM and they turned off the lights for the final time at 1:34 AM.

You have permission to use any and all of my photos, all I ask for is a photo credit (Tristan Zieley). All photos taken by me with the exception of the photo with Suff which is courtesy of Suff & Jason Beem.

Long Live The Pomp! 1964-2022. You will be missed.

They turned on all of the lights in the grandstand, or tried to, for the final time.

Experiences. I'm a closer.

I closed a lot of things in New England..Suffolk Downs etc.

2016-17 I moved to Florida and
I've attended closing ceremony's for Dania beach Jai-lai , Palm Beach Kennel club , Calder and Pompano Park.

The message on the windows was done with Post-it notes. 😆.

Suff, I was there for the closing of Calder. However that felt like people were ready to let it go as it was in complete shambles. This felt different, it felt like a funeral for an old friend.

Last night was loaded with emotions. You could feel them.

They die differently, Hollywood Park with classic Vic Stauffer call. Arlington Park looking brand new, Suffolk Downs like a 10 year battle with cancer, Dana Jai-lai like a criminal in the electric chair, Calder like pulling tracheotomy out , Palm Beach Kennel club like a bachelor party close. 😂

This young lady was the Pomp's photographer for it's final year.

They celebrated her with an MVP award early in the evening. I spoke with her later, she's off to Medical school.

Well then it looks like Dania Jai-Alai got a second chance. A non-wagering tournament at Dania in April wound up being such a success, they’re talking about reopening in late 2022.

The track at Suffolk Downs is once again open for recreational purposes until the fall; it wound up being such a hit that they’re doing it again this year and the grandstand windows are decorated with art. Right now they’re developing the stable area. Funny thing is that this month they reopened a greyhound track in the UK. It’s name? Suffolk Downs.

I didn't know or recognize this photographer.

I just happened to catch him in some photos.
I spoke with him later. He's an art , fashion & culture photographer from NYC. He flew down on his own buck.

I spoke to him, seems like a nice guy! Like me, he also took home a little dirt souvenir in a water bottle, I told him that the part of the track he bottled up was a bit moist. He needs to lay it out, let it dry and make sure it’s Fast.
