I try to keep a positive outlook by attending mass on Christmas morning, and then going to the nearest breakfast place. By 6 or 7 PM, some of the local establishments have opened for the bachelors in the area and I hang out there until it is time to go home. I remember the good days and comfort myself with those thoughts.

Th those of you who still have family, cherish these days for they will not be here forever.
Your bittersweet sentiment perfectly captures what is most important this and every other time of the year. Thank you.

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. As a child, I loved helping my mom prepare for dinner and the revolving door of people who showed up at our house. Plus it's the only holiday that isn't cannibalized by commercialization.

Christmas is mixed bag ... Christmas Eve at my sister's, which is always tough since my niece died of cancer about 6 years ago. Christmas day at the in-laws is just so-so, since they don't drink or like horseracing...after about 8 hours of that gang, I'm more than ready to get home and pour a double shot of Rock Hill Farms 100 proof...not enough "o's" in smoooth to describe it's taste.

I am blessed when we go to my In-laws for a week. My Father-In-Law likes to go downtown to the bars so we drink beer everyday

I hate Christmas. I am a Scrooge for sure. I watch "A Christmas Carol" and make sure I turn it off before Scrooge changes into a wimp.

This is a year without family in the area, so I have come up with new idea to help. The gift from Christmas past. I think of a long gone gift I got for Christmas many years ago and buy a new one. This year, it is a red corduroy shirt I got from dad when I was in the fourth grade. It matched a shirt of his.

Bah Humbugg

I stay in bed eat cheerios

the kids are older than me
they have other places to go

I cook for the ones still here all year
holidays i send them to other peoples homes

no lights or any decor
if i do put it up , I will have to take it down and store it

I have the manger scene on a table year round in a corner
because, its about spirit for me and not some commercial crap
dished out by merchants to make sales

I enjoy the reason for the season year round
and do for people year round anyway
