Fair enough. A sniffle, I don't see a problem. Something that causes noticeable impairment, yes.

Nyquil
Many cough syrups. These are most common culprits.

There are two ways to get a high test with meds.
1. If you have ingested/swallowed NyQuil or some cough syrups within 20 min of the actual breathalyzer, it can contaminate the test and it's usually a pretty high test based on how long ago you drank it.
2. You have ingested enough cough syrup or NyQuil to carry a continued high BAC.
Very possible

I have arrested many an alcoholic with mouth wash or cough syrup in their pockets.
Btw, put a "Halls" lozenge in your mouth and wait 3 min and you will blow over .30

Yeah, it's a real problem from what I understand. I try not to think about the things many of them do to make their target weight.

When I was attending college in Boston I worked "evenings" - 4 to midnight - at Store24 (like a 7-11) on Mass Ave. downtown and half of what we did was nab shoplifters and half of what they stole was exactly those two things. In fact, the boss used to joke that we had a "mouthwash" section in a store too small to carry toothpaste. I quit drinking not long after starting work there and getting a first hand glimpse of those episodes on a nightly basis.

I changed the title of this thread to better reflect reality, since it has been reported that he did NOT fail a breathalyzer test, as was first reported.

I so hope this is just a mistake and all is well with Eddie.
He is one of my personal favorites. He always rides his horses out
to the wire for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th. I have had a lot of luck with him.
I remember reading an article on him being asked about how tough the
students are treated at the Pincay Riding school in Panama. They sleep
on the floor and work hard all day. He said it was not that bad as he
grew up in hills of Panama, worked hard all day on a plantation,
slept on a dirt floor and had no electricity. I can't help but root for someone like that.
A few years ago, he came to Thistledown and won the Ohio Derby.
I went down to congratulate him. He walked over to me, took his helmet off
shook my hand and was very nice.
Best of luck Eddie.
