Del Mar had it's current turf course grown elsewhere for two years before they installed it and still, that first meet they had problems. Then the next meet it was fine. Takes a long time to grow in right

Did they race on it the first year it was installed at the track?

They put it in at the track after it had grown two years elsewhere. I forgot how long it was on the surface before they ran.

That's what happens when you have the best circuit.

Didn't they run the BC on it that first year?

But a CD, that patch between the main course and the turf course looks lush. They might be able to run match races over it.

Looked good. Chunks weren't coming up and winner ran on and passed others showing class.

I remember last year Tribhuvan flattened out on derby day. (he should have won ) The track was pooling water on the inner rail and winners were all deep closers down the middle of the track. (most of them ran back terrible)

Then, fast forward a bit... to when the track looked like it was spray painted green and front runners just romped. Mono merry-go-round.

Tonight they had rails up at 27 feet.... the track looked fine. I'm not so sure they fixed the problems though. I believe the dirt track was pooling water down into the turf track which siphoned water to the rail. Time will tell.

Virtually impossible for the dirt track to funnel water onto their turf track.
