I'm sure some of you saw this tour de force yesterday. Same connections as Gun Runner, same rider, and same late lead change in deep stretch.

Yes, I was at FG Friday and Saturday and saw this horse run, he wasnt even blowing when he came back. He's the real deal. I wish there was a spot to bet derby futures right now before he wins a stakes, I'd sure bet a chunk on him at the generous price he's probably sitting at.

It's a long way from the Fairgrounds in December to Churchill Downs in May.

I read he is being pointed for the Lecomte. I believe no horse that has won the Lecomte has won the Derby,

I was in Las Vegas last week and bet him at the Wynn's future book.

My buddy bet him on the future wager, mainly because of Asmussen.
He has a funny name and I looked it up. Prince William in Portuguese. I don't know the rationale or reason.

I did the same thing. Nothing against William, but the translation didn't help me like the name any better.

There’s always the first time for everything, just like a maiden won the BC Juvy this year. Can’t rule anyone out in horse racing. It’s all about value

Slight change. It's all about the horse. It makes zero sense to rule out a horse because of stats regarding preps.

What if he runs the Risen Star a month later?
Is still going to need over 20 pts to get in Derby - will only get 10 if wins the Lecomte and has none now.

I know he closed at 27-1 in the first futures pool and I had him 3rd best from pool #1 behind Bolt D'Oro and Montauk but ahead of Avery Island, Solomini and Good Magic. I only used Bolt and Montauk in exacta boxes with the field but did use Tapit, Street Sense and Medaglia D"oro in the sires boxed. Sad news Tapit closed at 8-1 as opposed to 27-1 for Principe. Was a little leery due to his front running style first out. Excited to see where he does show up next time.

The first time Gun Runner won a race wire-to-wire was in the Matt Winn after the Kentucky Derby. He only adopted a front-running style after the BC last year in the Clark.
Principe Guilherme to this point is more reminiscent of Bayern, who likewise dueled his way to a clear debut win going 7f followed by an easy two-turn romp the length of the stretch in a next out allowance race.
PG has the advantage of a 2-month head start on Bayern, having debuted in November (rather than January), so he won't have to be rushed into the Derby trail.
