Just loved this line in the article:

"Ironically, McLaughlin said that one labor board is fining him for underpayment of wages while the other is investigating him for overpayment."

Of course, this likely applies to different sets of individuals, but I sure wouldn't be surprised to find them all in one group.

Guilty on both charges, Sir.

All I know is if a trainer like this finds the cost of doing business in NY too complex and costly and leaves, others are going to follow or leave the game totally and that's not good.

trainers and employees

Chad Brown also faced the same charges and penalties;don't have the exact
numbers as I'm typing this reply, but I believe high 6 digits were paid to his employees

Different rules for Aqueduct, Belmont, and Saratoga because each county has different rules.

Anyone know, is there like a go-to accountant (or firm) for trainers to use who can monitor all these unique situations the NY circuit deals with? It seems like this would be a good time for a standardized type program to be developed for trainers to get on board with, but not sure if that type of thing exists or if NYTHA could back such an effort. Add in all the other jurisdictions a barn might run at through the year & this sounds like a massive headache to be in full compliance.

Short side note on other trainer trouble in NY - how has there not been one mention on this board yet of Linda Rice possibly having her license revoked? That seems like a pretty big deal, hard to tell if there's real dirt on her.

So wait...McLaughlin is being fined for underpayment?

Where's the Chad-like UPROAR on here about this? How come nobody is writing post after post about what a dickhead Kiaran is? I guess nobody cares anymore about underpaid track workers...or they just have hard-ons for Chad Brown?

Interesting...

There are also different rules for Fed vs. State. I had a discussion about the issue with a prominent NY trainer last night. He does all his own accounting, payroll etc... because he has a background in it. He said its very complex and difficult to deal with even for someone like him. So for others, it may be a nightmare.

I guess you missed it. Chad was the biggest offender (by far) so he took the headline of the articles but the others were always listed and people gave them grief too.

Just typical for New York State...everything to drive business away with their onerous regulations.

Kiaran had a banner year in 2016 for major wins : Metropolitan, Ogden Phipps, Whitney, Personal Ensign, Woodward, and the BC Dirt Mile. But zilch since then. I would have to think that this has something to do with it.

These larger barns have a target on their ass by everyone, and in the barn next to them are 20 illegals working for cash that are never bothered. I am not saying these guys are all angels, but they are not the evil misers that some people make them out to be.
