Does it happen after trying to print?

This is a known issue with the recent patch release from MS for Win10.

Do you have a full backup of your system?

Do you have Windows 10?

OK, then type "Reset This PC" (no quotes) in the search box in the lower left corner of your Desktop screen.

If you don't see a search box,
Click on the Start button in the lower left corner of your Desktop screen.
Click on the Settings (gear) symbol.
Click on System.
Type "Reset This PC" (no quotes) in the search box upper left.

Recovery Page
If the "Go back to the previous version of Windows 10" option is available, click "Get started".
Your Windows system needs to have been updated within the last 10 days by Windows Update for this option to be available.

If not, click the "Get started" button under "Reset this PC".
Click "Keep my files" and follow directions.
This will take you back to an earlier version of Windows 10 but Windows will update this automatically over the next few days.

I would set up System Restore if this is successful. (no guarantees)

did some thing where I did hard-restarts every time the HP logo came up on startup... after 3 times it gave me an option to use system tools.

did some typing scans;kf/aspd type of stuff and it said i had an error

then did a Windows Reset where it saved my files, but deleted things like site passwords. Took 30min+

So far so good.

Do you use Google Chrome as your browser? I thought it optionally stored passwords in the cloud.

You did separately backup all of your data before you attempted reset/recovery of your system, didn't you?

Sorry I didn't mention this in the first step. Maybe I trusted MS to "keep my files".

I don't know about that cloud stuff.

No, I don't know how this stuff works, i'm just trying to get this running before I smash it with a cinderblock.

Seems to be working fine now, just a few password recovery things, but otherwise working.

thanks

Whenever giving advice on changing/resetting/restoring a computer system, always start with: "Backup any data that you want to save before attempting this procedure."

Here's how it works:

Backup (copy) to another drive (USB flash stick, external hard drive, CD/DVD, etc.) anything that you want to save before attempting any procedure that involves changing, upgrading, resetting or restoring your computer.
