Post position stats

Are they calculated for coupled entries and scratches?

Always wondered if they go off the winning horse number rather than the actual post position.

I've always assumed the post position stats were based on the horse's post position rather than the horse's number which frequently doesn't match post position. Good question, hope someone can clarify.

I realize that. I am curious to know if the scratches (early or late) and the wins, if they credit PP4 or PP5. I would not be at all surprised if they make it the 5 and move on.

It is the post as others have said, the spot in the gate. I have seen where the inside post is left open, maybe more than 1, but the first filled stall is designated as the 1 post and each horse further out adds one. That is what gets reported.

If you pull up a chart, you can see the post position # and the horse number distinction. So I would think the post position stats would be the post position not the horse number.
