Barbaro's breakdown at the Preakness Stakes (gr. I) has kicked up the debate over whether something is making Thoroughbreds more prone to injury. Blood-Horse

Many small time breeders have been saying for years that the two dominant breeding lines, Northern Dancer(Phalaris) and Mr. Prospector(Raise a Native) are responsible for unsound condition of the breed. They even have a name for it --it's called the Phalaris disease.

More prone to injury?

Or less prone to feeling pain or soreness as a warning sign?
Isn't that what has been used for for many decades? Deadening the hurt so the horse will run?
As time goes on there are more efficient and stronger ways to mask the problem IMAO (in my amateur opinion).
