I'm not reading through this whole thread, but I did glance through it last night. I'll just say that anyone using run up as part of any formula is building a lot of error into their calculations.

Run up distances are provided by tracks to Equibase. Equibase relays this information to horseplayers. They try to make sure it is reasonably close, but it is not an easy job. It gets tougher on turf with temp rails, borderline impossible. Anybody thinking tracks really know the run up are fooling themselves.

I can say with confidence the run up is rarely accurate. Sometimes it is a few feet off, many times 10 feet or more, and there are lots out there that are so far off people wouldn't believe it if I told them.

I'll also add this supposed hand-timing done by The Sheets and Thorograph is a farce if they aren't using video. Obviously that wasn't really an option until fairly recently. Anyone that thinks you can time a race by hand with any accuracy, even from the gate, is deluding themselves. It was/is a marketing ploy.

On top of that, as I mentioned in the last post, even if you get the gate time spot on, you don't really know the distance you are timing.

CJ I can fully understand what you're saying so the way I look at it is take everything at face value now I did come across that somebody is sending data files with the run up in it in other words somebody is looking for the next best thing instead of dealing with the information that's right in front of you and that everybody is why we are in the greatest game in the world

Oh sharkey sharkey sharkey. I had no idea that you had such a burning desire to 'bate me. Sorry, but my bat doesn't swing that way. But good news for you -- spring training is just around the corner. Pitchers and catchers report first so you should see enough action. You seem to be awfully stressed. Take in a ball game, maybe a doubleheader that you seem to enjoy.

BTW...congratulations are in order. I saw your Facebook pics and it's really good to see you back to wearing men's clothing again. And that thing you think is a cold sore? Umm...nope!

And speaking of burning, you can probably pick up some OTC cream for that nasty rash. Wow. That stuff is really glowing red. Damn!

I also apologize for forgetting that English was not your native language. I tried to dumb this down as much as I could. Maybe when you attempt your retort you can get a 3rd or 4th grader to help you. Oh sorry...I forgot. The court order prevents you from doing that.

The last guy that attempted unprovoked attacks on me got pantsed by me so well his frilly pink undies were showing and he cried all the way home to mommy. It was so bad the thread got deleted. I guess you're the next idiot to try it.

You can have the last word which is no doubt the extent of your vocabulary. I'm not going to read it. When the old neighborhood gets too many undesirables moving in the best thing to do is relocate. You are well on your way to becoming the Pope of Assclowns, sharkeynuts. It's no wonder that all your "special" buddies acknowledge you by saying "Yes, your assholiness".

Good luck sharkey. I bet your parents are so proud.

Race Tracks are in business to take your money not give you you have to earn it the hard way
Racetracks aren't like casinos. Casinos are in the business to take your money. Racetracks get a percentage of every dollar bet and it actually is better for their business if more people win or break even, or lose very little. One of the reasons why harness racing did so well in New York years ago was because there were a lot of successful bettors including several professional bettors who bet large amounts of money. Once harness racing made poor decisions, like changing the racebikes, the favorites started to win too often, and it created a speed bias, so the professional bettors stopped betting harness and switched to thoroughbred racing. But my point is, when the racing was good at Roosevelt and Yonkers, the handle was big because a lot of people were either winning or coming very close to breaking even over the long run, so they kept betting.
