How cool that he made the front of the sports page!

Sad to hear about The Chilli Man.

An awful story here in the NW regarding trainer Monique Snowden who trained the Chilli Man. Monique took her own life the evening the horse was put down.

she actually jumped from a bridge after someone placed an $80,000.00 show bet on the horse...you couldn't make it up if you tried...

Awful story. Interesting that the horse was to be transferred to a new trainer after this start, and she still jumped?

I was at Emerald Downs on Sunday and someone was sharing to anyone who would listen that the horse was brought to Emerald to be sold for for $400,000.

Tragic that the horse was put down, but nothing even close to someone associated with the horse choosing to end their life as well. Prayers for the family and friends.

Typically a former trainer is given a commission on a horse when its sold. This is not always the case but the going rate is about 10% of the purchase price since trainers get 10% of purses.

However not all trainers spell this out on the front end so the stories are numerous of horses selling for six figures, even seven and the trainer getting nothing but a thank you.

As the late Jess Jackson learned the private purchase side of the business is super shady and unregulated. Bloodstock agents are unlicensed so there's numerous tales of agents working both sides of a deal and charging both parties. Agents flipping horses like houses (this is the Julio Canini issue) and trainers walking away with nothing but an empty bridle.

As a trainer once said to me "the amount of times you're lied to, screwed over, disappointed and flat out hustled in a year as a trainer exceed the average person's lifetime."

It's a brutal, brutal game.

I still have no words and I am devastated/crushed to hear of her death.

This is just surreal. I can't imagine what she was feeling, I can't. Poor Dennis and her poor brother.

Poor The Chilli Man.

Terrible tragedy....

Jockey of The Chilli Man, Joe Steiner, abruptly retired today.

Wonder if he too was impacted by The Chilli Man breaking down and by Monique's suicide.

That can be a scarring event to be attached to.

11 Horse field for the Longacres Mile sunday.

I remember betting most of everyone's mortgage payment times 2 or 3 on Stryker PHD in the 2013 Longacres Mile.

Not redboarding....He was the 5, if I remember correctly. Was 15 plus to 1. A blanken Hastings sprinter jogged in a paceless race and just held on over Stryker PHD

Anyway, really sad to see this old veteran running Sunday. He has lost more than 1 step this season. He has lost a pole. It will be sad to see him flattening out in the last 1/16 to mid pack.

The sentimental side of me hopes he wins and I lose money (betting against him).

I seriously hope I win Sunday but more importantly hope all contenders make it out alive, especially Stryker PHD as he has earned a place in my heart the last 3 years.

I see Hollendorfer (2) and that guy that I always have a hard time spelling his name, goes something like Droug Okneal are in town.

Tyler Baze is the famous jock in town this year. Welcome Tyler !

Wouldn't mind seeing my favorite jock at EMD, ROCCO "One day will be winning at SA at 20%" Bowen win a Longacres Mile as he deserves it !

Looks like a fun day set up for Sunday!

I just saw this. Steiner is on the old side for a jockey - 51 years old. This is really just his latest retirement. He has retired multiple other times, usually because of injury.
