i know it wouldn't be the first, because i bet that much myself at Oaklawn on MEDAGLIA DORO in a 5 horse field and i was hoping that he ran out, i would have made more on the other horses.

i think i should have clarified this. this was back in 2002 when Oaklawn still paid $2.20. that horse had the biggest show bet i have ever seen in my entire life, there was over $5 million bet to show on the horse. the hedge was less than 5% of the total show pool and most of that was mine. 2 races before there was about $3 million on AZERI to show in the Apple Blossom.

This is pretty incredible considering the entire WPS ( Win-Place-Show ) pool in that Apple Blossom was $1,168,549 and the WPS for the Oaklawn Handicap was $1,886,104.

Even if this was factional, 5% of $5 million is $250,000.

Even if I had a million, which I do not. The most I would hedge against a bridge jumper would be $500-$1000.

You got to be crazy to bridge jump on a horse in a 2f race. If anything happens out of the gate, you are done. I've think the rate of failures of bridge jumpers is higher in quarter horse and 2f races at the Mountain. If I recall correctly, HH was bridge jumped on last year and almost finished out of the money after losing almost losing the jockey at the gate.
