Question Pleasanton - who will call the races?

The Northern California fair season starts this week with Oak Tree at Pleasanton. Who will call the races?
  • Wrona is now based at Santa Anita...
  • I can't see Frank M leaving Monmouth.
  • Dave Rodman is staying at Laurel

I would love to see a particular goof on the roof call the races, but I'm guessing that won't happen. Maybe Angela Hermann gets more racecalling experience.

Please, heck no. She is a complete nightmare. Does absolutely nothing well.

As I watch replays of horses who ship in from GG to EMD, I have to mute as she is that terrible at calling a race. She actually distracts me from taking notes. I can't hear myself think as I hear the screech from the blackboard.

I hope so. Then he can call Timonium when they run in late August / early September!

I believe Chris Griffin is calling the fairs this year. He took over for me at Portland last year but only did a part of the meet because he does college basketball for ESPN3. Very nice guy and has done the Ferndale meet in the past I believe. Having him on my show later this week.

I don't care for Wrona either, really wish Frank would have gotten the job at SA.

Too busy on the radio touring with NASCAR. I imagine MRN pays him well too.

And when he's not calling Auto races this summer he'll be on the Horse Racing Radio Network stakes broadcasts from Saratoga and Monmouth.

Yep.

You should freely assume the following:

Local radio pays more than public address announcing.

Network radio pays more than local radio.

Local, syndicated, or cable television pays more than network radio.

Network television pays more than anything.

By that metric, Kurt Becker would be crazy to leave MRN to call races during the summer.

I'm willing to bet on those too if I have trip notes and my own figures.

Pace figures are key to those races. The early speed always holds up.
