That's because the delta variant isn't all that dangerous. It's been likened by many doctors to a bad cold.

Trump did nothing. Well, almost nothing. He did sign the CARES Act which provided for Operation Warp Speed. But every single member of Congress voted for that, so he couldn’t have vetoed it even if he wanted too.
He certainly didn’t do any scientific research. He can’t even spell scientific research. Meanwhile he kept making distracting statements about Hydrochoroquin and drinking bleach, casting doubt on mask wearing and closures and just generally making things worse.

That's the long and short of it. So mask up all those school kids, deprive them of vital oxygen in their development years, and lock-down everyone else.
