Question EquiSim - Error Preventing Program Startup

I just re-installed Equisim 6.0 and when I try to open the program I get the following error message:

"No Settings Database exists and EquiSim cannot find the Settings Database Template. Re-installing Equisim may solve this problem."

I've tried uninstalling, rebooting the computer and reinstalling Equisim but I still get the same error message.

I'm hoping an Equisim user out there has some experience with this issue and can suggest a solution.

Thank you in advance.

Make sure you’re installing with admin rights

What JR wrote. I built a new Win10 PC in late 2020 and didn't have a problem with the install. I always recommend to install an app to a drive other than C:, but the default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\ThoroTech\ESROI6 and that should be fine.

Thanks for the reply JustRalph.

I should have mentioned that I've already tried installing with admin rights and unfortunately that doesn't help in this situation.

But thanks for the advice.

Then the error has to do with the jet database requirement.

What version of windows?

Try right clicking on the shortcut and hitting the compatibility tab

Try running in win98 mode etc

Thanks for the reply headhawg.

I'm running this software on my 5 year old desktop computer running Win 10 home edition. I've never had any problems with previous installs on this same computer.

Unfortunately installing EquiSim with admin rights doesn't help in this case.

But thanks for your advice.

Eureka it's working now!

I started it in compatibility mode for Win 8 (I'm running Win 10) and it started up just fine. Then I found I could start it without using compatibility mode and was prompted to rename settings.sbd file manually and then restart. It's working terrific now.

I feel a bit stupid for not trying this idea before posting my error question but I've never had any problem installing this software before so I wrongfully assumed it was a complicated issue.

Thanks JustRalph!
You've made my weekend!!
