Who would bet Lani, after his schedule this year?
For the same reason that I was down on Nyquist for the Preakness, I am down on Exaggerator for the Belmont, betting-wise. Draining races eventually take their toll.

Couldn't agree more. Lani with back to back career best efforts probably takes a step back here. Exagg looks primed for at least a slight regression... Enough to put him out of the exacta anyway.
I can't believe Destin isn't getting more attention. A supremely bred Pletcher off perfect spacing who may just control the pace, ala Dunkirk, Commissioner. Not to mention he's the fastest horse coming in.
SBN is interesting as well. I'd love to see a jockey change but not sure that will happen. He appears to be one that will be helped out by the more forgiving Belmont turns. He's a horse that doesn't appear to corner well.

Governor Malibu is now on the probable list. This one turned some dizzying final fractions in the Peter Pan, albeit a one-turn endeavor. The only thing I don't like is he's not a Raise A Native. Those have won 15 of the last 21 Belmont Stakes.

It's a pretty darn short list for now: Exaggerator
For some reason the RAN sire line with Northern Dancer dam sire line has been ridiculously successful in Belmont. None have that combo this year as of now.

If this is the field, have to use Destin somewhere because I can see "no" speed in this group and he could steal away under soft fractions and be around late. It could turn out to be the slowest Belmont ever.

I think that it can be plausibly argued that both Nyquist and Exaggerator bounced a bit in the Preakness. Take away the latter's length advantage by hugging the rail early, both would have been at the finish line in a mix of racers that were not that impressive themselves.
Rested Belmont entrants should have the upper hand.

Is Stradavari(sp?) definitely out?
Destin looks like he'd need a dream trip to ever turn the tables on Exaggerator.

Timely but just a little early with your question.
Quote:
... "(Stradivari) came out of the Preakness really well," Pletcher said. "I've liked the way he has trained since then. But we will spend the next seven, eight days monitoring his gallops, and probably schedule a breeze next Friday or Saturday, and that will be the determining factor. We'll talk to the connections and make sure that everybody is on board. But right now, I like the way he is training and I'm strongly considering it."
Pletcher said Javier Castellano will have the mount on Destin in the Belmont Stakes. If Stradivari runs, John Velazquez, the colt's pilot in the Preakness, has the return mount.

No E's in the field so far. Could be the slowest Belmont ever.
