Pletcher and the Preakness

Correct me if im wrong but isnt it true Todd Pletcher does not often put horses in the Preakness. So if he is putting Stradivari in the Preakness he plans on this horse running a big race. He don't need to put horses in races for a thrill. He plays to win the game. No?

Wonder what a Nyquist w/ Stradivari exacta could pay out. hmmm

Not much.

Stradivari had a big-margin win at Keeneland with a high speed figure. His trainer is Todd Pletcher. Too many bettors will take notice.

TAP has not had much success in Preakness either. I believe he found the winner's circle once. The race is won by a new shooter once a decade. Would not be shocked if he runs a big race but tall class jump. Last Brinet figure suggests he can hit the board and probably worth a shot in tri and super wagers.

Stradivari is currently third choice. Off his last race I can see him getting action.

He won't be lower than Exaggerator or Nyquist. He'll have to be at least 5-1, they can't all be odds on.

I'd think at least 5-1... 8-1 is not out of the question. Nyquist figures to be 1/2 or thereabouts. Exaggerator probably takes more than he should if it's an off track. The question then becomes is Nyquist 4-6x as likely a winner as stradavari...

If you like Stradavari it's probably based on his competition numbers thus far. That's a tasty price on a horse that just needs to run back to his last

Pletcher has been third once in seven Preakness starts, and that was in 2000. His last Preakness runner was Dance City in 2011, who finished 5th.

Pletcher in Derby: 45 starters, 1 win, 2 seconds, 3 thirds
Pletcher in Preakness: 7 0-0-1
Pletcher in Belmont: 16 2-3-2 (won with Rags to Riches and Palace Malice)

Somehow, it's difficult to understand how one who wins so many training titles, so many graded stakes, starts so many horses, does so horribly in these three races. Maybe it's just me, but wow.

Pletcher has been putting horses in the derby with no shot at winning for years, why should the Preakness be any different? Pletcher is a top trainer getting his horses to the big races & not winning the big races.

Yea. It's baffling how he does so great on the NYRA circuit, but he's just another trainer outside that.

Yea, he's done pretty well there. Good point.

But apparently you're not baffled by his record in the TC. Why do you think he does so bad there, and in the Breeders Cups races ??? (if you don't count Liam's Map who he talked the owner into avoiding the BCC so he could get a win on his resume).

Please explain it to us.

Because he can't train horses on short rest. He needs 5 weeks or his program doesn't work.
