Union Square used to be prime real estate area!

I was last in San Fran over 6 years ago, and was reminded why it's not that great.

It's dirty! I'm not talking about homeless people everywhere either. For all the taxes that city and state command, the trash was overflowing, the streets and sidewalks were dirty and in disrepair.

Sad because San Francisco has some of the best restaurants. I'm sure a lot of them are on their way out too.

retail apocalypse 2023

More than 2,100 stores are closing across the US in 2023. Here's the full list.

If it was just SF it would be something different. This is country wide.

That is a lot of retail business taxes leaving the city, how are they going to pay reparations to people who were never enslaved or lived under Jim Crow laws?

A big chunk of those is just made up of 3 chains and the top one of those is a bankruptcy. I don't think you can tie that to what is happening in SF. Also look at how close all the stores closing are grouped in San Fran. I doubt many similar groupings will be found.

It is different. Most of the 2,100 stores closing are doing so in bankruptcy not because of unfettered retail theft.

Yup...retail brick and mortar has been getting slammed since Amazon opened for business.

COVID lockdowns were another giant blow.

Woke madness (ie. going soft on crime) is the final nail for many of them, but not the thing that pushed them most to the edge.

I buy from Amazon every single week, every single time a package or packages are left on the porch in the same spot. Every time cheaper than I can get it elsewhere. Back in the day I went to Radio Shack and this place

, today I do not even know where a Radio Shack is.

Wikipedia says Radio Shack has 400 stores left, that seems high to me. I remember when I was a kid always looking forward to the Radio Shack sales fliers. I tried using the store locator to see if there was one around me but due to my internet it doesn't work. There were 3 stores around me that I used to clean out of resistors of certain types when I was selling upgraded
vehicle charging systems. All of them closed one at a time before I fled California a dozen years ago.

I get what I need now from Newark.
