Bizarre voting. What goofballs are allowed to vote? No Baffert, but worse, where the hell was Enable?
They need the trainers and owners to do the voting. Real racing journalists number about 2 these days.

Sad day for TURF racing!
That was the BEST they could find?
For all the emphasis tracks are putting on turf racing these days, they sure aren't creating many great horses.
Stormy Liberal was pretty much a "participation" award.

Not really.
Bottom line, all these awards mean nothing for the players.
Do we get more $$, or anything for that matter?
It is a social event and a $$$ system for breeders.
If Stormy Liberal was HOY, would it affect me in any way whatsoever, other than a hearty laugh?
Let the insiders have their party and pat each other on the backs.
I do not give a crap what 90% of them say or think the rest of the year, why would I care now?
This whole HOY thing is internet small talk to kill time waiting for a 6 horse field!

IMO, there wouldn't have even been a serious conversation except for the fact that we just had a Triple Crown winner and that somehow diminished the accomplishment in some people's eyes when combined with the seemingly weak crop and less than stellar speed figures from some sources.
The biggest disappointment to me is that we won't get to see him again. Intellectual curiosity alone is enough to be disappointed.
IMO, to accomplish what he accomplished while being so lightly raced is probably being under appreciated. If he developed like the typical horse as he both matured physically AND GOT MORE EXPERIENCE we might have seen a few huge races from him later in his career. Not many young dirt horses put up consistent triple digit Beyers immediately and continue doing so running that far so quickly in their career (including less than ideal trips). Heck, there are a couple of very good horses in the Pegasus tomorrow that didn't start getting really good until they were 5 or 6 and had a lot more seasoning.

Wasn't this 3 month discussion started by Andy Asaro? I haven't seen him posting here for a while. He's still on the Twitter.

It's fine to say it is tough to do.
It's not fine to say all you need to do is win 3 races against restricted fields and retire due to breeding economics and you can win over a horse who won a bunch of open stakes including the BC Classic.

As has been stated so many times and in so many ways before:
Accelerate did not even belong in any realistic conversation about HOY after mid-June of 2018.
The vote %% would have been 98+ were it not for American Pharoah’s earlier successes.
It’s that simple.

I agree that the economics of the industry are terrible on multiple levels.

Maybe we should have been debating City of Light vs. Justify?
I really wish the track wasn't such a mess and most likely working against quite a few horses in the race. But no matter how you slice it, COL was excellent.
