Her mounts have won $2.6 million this year and $42.6 million for her career.

I don't think we need to have a benefit dinner for Chantal just yet.

She has very little to worry about, if things don't work out for her in SoCal she always has Woodbine to fall back on. That was her plan until she won the "Cap", now she is getting alot more mounts because of that win. I dont think money is a real concern, her goal is to get to the Breeders Cup, that's all that really matters to her.

Hasn't she already won two at Del Mar? How many wins does one have to have for it to be considered a successful meet?

She just won the first at Del Mar on the longest shot.

Chantel

She just killed me in the 5th at Del Mar. I really liked the #7 Ninth Infantry. She took the horse to the lead and pooped her out. Faded in the stretch.

It leaves me scratching my head when I see a "B" rider like Sutherland who has established clients at one track move their tack to a highly competitive circuit like SO Cal only to find relatively little business.
On the other hand, a rider cannot move up in the world unless they take a chance.

I always wonder about that, & some are head scratchers. But for example Bejarano & Rosario always seem to be
1 - 2 in the final standings but Talamo makes a good living out here in S Cal.

And as to Chantal, I figure the side income from her other endeavors help to carry her financially when the number of rides or winners taper off.

You can't seriously blame her for that loss! Ninth Infantry is a nice miler in the claiming ranks, which Chantel rode well enough to win with a few times. This was a tough little Stakes race at a mile and sixteenth. Obvious distance and class limitations is the reason this horse lost, not the jockey.

if you are in the top 10, hell probably the top 15 jockeys on a major circuit you aren't missing any meals. i doubt you miss any meals regardless but they do well for themselves.

brice blanc made $459,440 for his connections at the hollywood park meet. He gets 10% of that so that's $45,944 if my math is not as bad as my spelling. Give 25% of that to his jock agent and he's left with $34458, give or take.. For 3 months worth of work. He's not even in the top 10.

lol you can see who is really benefiting from the purse increases.

He gets even less than that. He gets 10% on WIN purses, 5% on others, flat mount fee on finishing worse than 5th. At least that's how it is elsewhere in the nation, not sure if Cali has that messed up too! So maybe around $25,000 he has. Plus jockey club dues, plus medical, he's not making very much.
