He wasn't turf. I think, if memory serves, his decline on track was probably related to his illness. They didn't know he was sick until later.

Grand Canyon. His victory in the 1989 Hollywood Futurity was quite the spectacle. Maybe the track was souped up that night, but he did run the one turn mile in 1.33. He never ran again, and was euthanized the next summer...

I have noticed in the distant past the track variants seemed to be on the very fast side on a lot of big race days when I was making my own Beyer figures. This was on the big 3 SoCal tracks, Hol, DMR, SA. I wonder if any insiders would care to chime in.

4 for 4 lifetime. Retired in 1963 after 2 y/o campaign.
Not a bad sire, either.

TARAZ - I remember how she towered over the rest of the Cox horses when I saw them schooling her in the OP paddock prior to the Martha Washington (2/1/20). That was her final win in a 3 for 3 career. I had been impressed by everything I'd seen of her. The whole Cox team was visibly shaken during the race card following the morning of her breakdown.

Here's another one.
Not sure how many people will remember his debut in 1990, but Le Prince. I can't remember the Beyer figure, but it was huge. I was making my own figures at the time.
