Rebel Stakes Probables

Rebel Stakes Probables

I couldn't find much in the Condition Book @ the Oaklawn web site other than the nominations close tomorrow and the race is a Grade 2, for a cool million bucks. If the San Felipe probables ship in this should be a solid horse race, it may be a key race . . .

It was already shaping up to have a solid field prior to events at SA. The calendar is tricky for those connections without shipping unless the track gets going again very soon. The Santa Anita Derby may also need to be rescheduled to make the calendar work. Crazy stuff.

No doubt crazy stuff; may be unprecedented. It'll be interesting to watch this drama unfold.

I didn't give it much of a look earlier . . . indeed it was shaping up to be a solid field; Galilean looks like a nice colt. Sure would be a barn burner if they get the San Felipe colts in there. Can the San Felipe colts get in the Rebel considering the nominations close tomorrow? What is the process thereby which they get in? Got any info on this?

Baffert suggested he already had his shots "nominated everywhere". I'm not sure what the conditions are for the Rebel but typically in the absence of "win and in situations" if there are more entries than gates then selection goes to graded stakes then/or stakes earnings then overall earnings.

Copy that; thanks, good to know.

I say the put the California Drama behind em', don't give it a second thought; move on, ship em' out as soon as possible, get a work over the surface before the race.

How about TWO Rebels?!

It's a distinct possibility according to the Oaklawn Jockey Club.

Situation sill unfolding . . .

Still more news . . .

"Ron Anderson, agent for jockey Joel Rosario, is planning to have his rider at Oaklawn on Game Winner in the Rebel. Jack Wolf, whose Starlight Racing owns a share of Improbable, said a trip to Arkansas is now possible for Improbable’s 3-year-old debut. Finley says it’s an option to ship Gunmetal Gray with Galilean, another 3-year-old campaigned by the partnership and already Rebel-bound."

San Felipe a "Unique Situation"

Yes, this is awesome. Going to be hard to beat seeing American Pharoah twice in 2015 but I'll take it!

I'll be making my debut at Oaklawn this weekend for the Rebel. It looks like it's going to be split, but we'll get 2 excellent races out of it.

have a good time, Rebel weekend is busy. Hit Rockys after it clears out after race 1-right across the street from the track. The Ohio club downtown was an old Al Capone hangout during prohibition-worth going for a beer or 2 or 3

Pretty big news coming from Oaklawn about the Rebel today.

The race is officially split into 2 races. Original payout was $1 Million for the single race, will now be $750K for each.

Kentucky Derby points for the single race were 50-20-10-5 will now be 37.5 - 15 - 7.5 - 3.5 for each.

Improbable and Galilean fall into the 1st race while Game Winner is in the 2nd.

I made it to the Ohio Club for a beer and some jazz music.

I liked the track and town a lot. It looks like Oaklawn is going to be a major success story with the casino absolutely hopping and now growing. I also like their unique show wagering bonus.

I also ran into CJ and his wife. Good to see them again.

The only thing that will prevent me from going a lot more often is no direct flights out of NY. I'm not a big fan of airports (the flying itself is no issue) and making plane changes etc.. So it's going to take a special race to get me there again soon, but I will be back.
