Timing problems, Woodbine turf and elsewhere

Ted Craven has a post at his website that raises a lot of questions.

If a company reported earnings incorrectly and knew about the error, the SEC would fine them big time, and their stock would get hammered, as no one could trust the numbers.

In racing, not so much. No one is fined. Bettors take it. Some players might even enjoy the information edge if the times are reported wrong, and they time the race themselves.

Timing races yourself is no picnic. You can do it pretty accurately from video (final time only), but I never trust people that say they hand time from the gate. It is way tougher than people pretend.

It just never ends with race timing in North America.

If the timing is as bad as they are saying, there are probably opportunities to use non time based methods to gain an edge since almost every serious bettor on the planet uses time based figures of some kind these days. It would take time to get familiar with the pecking order of the local horses and the tracks that ship there a lot, but maybe it would be worth it.

Woodbine doesn't get a lot of shippers. They have a long season (April to December) and a lot of stables don't go anywhere else. They run there and then take the winter off. On the other hand, they don't run turf races early or late in the season.

Wrong times take many forms

I recently watched a replay (unfortunately I cannot remember the track) and the time on the racing form was different than the posted time of the race.

This isn't really rare. Many times it is just a typo by the guy inputting the data. Other times there was an error on the screen.

Trakus has them right. It is our understanding of how Trakus works that is wrong. We'll all figure it out eventually.

It's taken a century to not be able to reliably time races with a teletimer. The 22nd century will be a race timing renaissance!

DFR caught on?
It must be bad........

Never made bet today - I think I just do not trust anything about the game anymore. I am not looking for excellence of execution, just minimum competence. Don't seem to see it anywhere.

Seeing BRIS is poting pace figure for race with ot fractions today.....I realized WWE has far more credibility than horse racing at every level. And lately, far more entertaining.

One of several reasons I gave up playing for awhile. Not sure why I should come back. Bored I guess.
