I finally decided to buy a copy at Amazon to take the place of the one I lost last yr when I moved. Fortunately this was the only book that was lost of the many I've got.

I'm just a collector of H'capping books and software. There's always something to be learned in every one.

For one thing...it's got an adjustment whereby you can predict how a horse's speed rating will be affected as it moves up and down the class ladder. I haven't seen that in any other handicapping book.

I'd rather see an adjustment for distance than class.
most of the handicapping books I've looked at really only talk about speed ratings and or breeding.
I was hoping for a different answer based on the fact of the popularity of the book.

I've got 5 books I purchased off ebay a few years ago. Only read one of them though. (the one I read is misplaced)

off the charts
betting the kentucky derby
trainer angles
go for the green

Are you familiar with any of them?

I did read beyer on speed when it came out, in 98'

I had never realized that "Hold Your Horses" was a popular book. In all my years on this board, I think this is the only time that I have seen the book even mentioned. And, yes...I've read the four books that you've mentioned above. None of them are worth the paper that they are printed on...IMO.

PS...

Every single speed and pace handicapping book offers an adjustment for distance.

thanks for your input.
yeah, I wholly believe that anything I could take away from reading those books wouldn't be worth the time in trying to read them. The one I did read(Speed To Spare) though, was OK I suppose.(I found it.) Joe Cardello seems like a sharp guy.

In fact, what has kept me from pursuing any books in the past, was the fear of hurting my handicapping process. My approach to speed and pace has nothing to do with math. Books on pedigree and betting angles I would check out.
