The Flu Season from Hell
I'm pushing 50, and can't remember ever having the flu..
Until this year. Record levels of flu in the northeast.. my wife and I tested positive for it in January. Plenty of other family too. Wasn't the biggest deal, got the Tamiflu and felt better in a few days.
Now enduring Round . This time it's packing more of a punch. I'm fighting back some serious nausea as I type this, and it's not for the usual reasons
Anyone else fallen prey this winter?

We missed the flu shots this year but heard they were only 10 to 30 percent effective anyhow. So far no flu, either Type A or B which is currently the most active.

Queried five friends that got the flu this year. Asked if they got a flu shot. All five did. Also, all Northeast.
I wish you a speedy recovery.

My "flu" turned out to be bronchitis; going on two weeks feeling poorly and making a very slow recovery.
I am hoping a company called Novavax is able to successfully develop a new vaccine in time for next season, better than the current vaccine in use.

I am not sure it helps prevention, just curious. I might have had 1 flu shot in my lifetime.

It is all a plot by the medical establishment to get more money from you...
get the shot, and then get the drugs (and sometimes hospital stay) to treat

I had the flu the lest time 10 years ago - very bad, missed work three days two weeks in a row. couldn't shake it. Before that, I always had it once a year, for a couple days usually, maybe three .
Then I started getting a flu shot every year and have not had it once since then. I highly recommend it.
This year, they say a second strain is now going around and you can get it again, so be carefull.

I got a flu shot once in my life, 22 years ago, and got the flu a couple weeks later. Hadn't had the flu for a decade before that and have not caught it since.

Two people on a machinist forum I belong to died from the flu recently and they both were in their 50's. It was kind of eerie as they both were posting while they were sick, one asking for advice on home remedies, then vanished.
Other members who knew the guys personally posted the bad news.

last time i got the flu was over 5 years ago. I have had one bad cold since then. I usually don't get the flu shot but did get one this year. Living in the North east the biggest difference came after they tested my blood and found i had a vitamin D deficiency. Most people up here don't get enough sun thus they are lacking vitamin D . Since I starting taking it i have had one cold in over 5 years.

Good point, burnsy.
I am on Vit D supplements too, for a few years now.
That may be part of why I don't get the flu.
As long as the flu shots are free, I'll keep getting them, just in case.
