Hard to argue with that, but I wonder what Commendable would have done in another trainer's barn. The obvious answer is that he would have never won the 2000 Belmont Stakes, but I could also believe he would have been a more consistent, quality horse.

After all, he was the rare Wayne Lukas debut winner...

I agree, that is why I said side note, just kind of an aside to the discussion.

More on point, I'm not surprised the Belmont has been better than the Preakness. That race is nowhere near what it used to be as so few want to run their horses back in two weeks any longer. Hell, many don't want to run back in two months.

I should add I think the Belmont has been better for a long time, just that the gap is getting bigger.
