Actually I live in western Massachusetts and I’ve been visiting the same OTB the last 25 years. It is in Connecticut where the OTB parlor count went from like 2 to 8 in the last decade not counting the OTB’s within the two casinos here. Also I can only think of one OTB location that has closed within my area ( Hinsdale NH) and it was only open like 3 years. Other then the OTB’s in New York ( mainly Manhattan) I disagree that many have closed down. I have been to OTB’s in Florida , , Pennsylvania, Maine, Connecticut and New York( Albany) and every single one is still open.Where have they closed? I would agree that most are on life support though.

Here on Long Island, the majority of the ones that were open 10-20 years ago are gone. There are maybe 5 branches in Suffolk County due to the corporation having money issues. Instead they have put their machines in bars and restaurants which is likely much cheaper to operate.

The Parx Philadelphia OTBs used to be quite busy. They've closed two of the five locations (obviously they're all closed right now, I mean they were already closed before the coronavirus). They're mainly used as sportsbooks and showing sports rather than races.

The NYC OTBs closing and the nationwide dominance of at-home betting largely killed OTBs as a substantial source of handle. So in that sense, their heyday is definitely over.

Of all the people on TVG I've had the pleasure of working with, Ken is one of my favorites.

A true professional. Humble and respectful.

Believe me there can be a lot of drama with people who work together in both horse racing and television.

Lot's of massive egos. Lot's of people jockeying for position.

Ken never bought into any of that. Class all the way.

Some of my other favorites in no particular order?

Gary Siebel, Rich Perloff, Greg Wolf, Christina Blacker. Many others.

I know they take a lot of heat. But the air staff at TVG is mostly truly classy, wonderful people.

People who really love horse racing and presenting it to the public.

They all know they're gonna be dart boards for the haters. But look past it all to provide the best possible coverage.

The main job of the TVG people is to get people to bet on the races. I'm sure they are following a plan laid out by the bosses. If somebody watches with that perspective in mind it is easier to understand.

Every person I've met in person from TVG has been extremely nice.

Wait, so you’re saying that people on the internet that attack people they don’t know at all might not always be right? Are you sure? Did you think this through?

No entire group of people is perfect, but I have only very nice things to say about everyone on air at TVG that I have spent time with, which is the vast majority of them.

Tvg

I saw them at the eclipse awards—they partied up, & seemed close & bonded.

Couple days later - christina blackwell & gabby gaudet together in a booth and I stopped. Congratulated them, said to christina, I’m east coast & don’t get to see you in person much, you’re even prettier in person.

She pointed to her headset and mouthed “we’re on”

I said -oh shit sorry.

She smiled & said actually we’re not, then her and gabby laughed at me.

Don’t mess with racetrack women, they have game.
