Ever had a winner pay 5000-1?

This lucky lady could be cashing as early as tomorrow,
and should definitely get her $10K within a week, or so.

There are more tickets like that, even in Las Vegas.
Bookies can often take an unnecessarily high loss when a long shot hits.
They hung too high a number, and potential losses grow with small bets.

The good news is that so many British books offer to pay you off, during the course of the bet.

You can hold on, for as long as you have nerve!

This guy did.

That 151K is New Zealand money (NZ website), the actual payoff the fan took was 72,000 pounds , about a 29% payout on the £250,000 potential jackpot

Go Chelsea tomorrow! This is the dream story that they will make a movie about someday. Euro soccer is the hardest to go from basically worst to first in one year.

You're right.
It's unprecedented, as far as I know.

Low budget salaries.
Just the right combination of players, manager, at the right time.
It can only help the sport - shows anything is possible for all clubs.

Good for them.

How could the bookmakers be so wrong? If the Cleveland Browns are only 200-1, and the Sixers are 1000-1, how you possibly have any team in any league that high? 5000-1 is Cal-Bakersfield winning the NCAA tournament.

A number of books got burned by the 1999 Rams at around 250-1. We rarely see 200-1 anymore on any team for our major sports. I'll never forget that Rams team. 4-12 the year before but they pick up Marshall Faulk, draft Torry Holt and sign Trent Green, who got hurt in preseason. What nobody knew was the replacement would be a Hall of Fame caliber QB. I can remember after week 2, they blew out somebody and after the game, Vermeil tells the media "I was just concerned about us being overconfident." I thought, overconfident? Off a 4-12 year? He must know something the rest of us didn't know......and he did.

Bookies Wrong?

LC had never won a league championship in 132 years in any league. In addition British bookies must offer competitive odds because there is actual competition in England. There has never been a single bet come in at 5000-1 in the history of British bookmakers.
