If there had been no slide rule it would have just been another ho hum day

at the races. Just thinking about it brought a smile to my face and its not

many days I came home from the races with a smile and a few bucks in my

pocket. The money I saved by not betting and trying to help out.

Almost all the ADWs and tracks have probable payouts on their sites. If you can't be bothered to click around, I multiply the win payout by the place. It's usually pretty close but not always.

STARTING AT 4 MINUTES TO POST, I DOWNLOAD THE WPS AND EXACTA POOLS FROM AN ON LINE ADW SITE

WITH ABOUT 1 MINUTE OR LESS TO POST, I CALCULATE THE EXACTA FAIR VALUE AND COMPARE IT TO THE PROBABLE PAYOUT OUT.

LOTS OF OVERLAYS SAY 4 MINUTES TO POST, LESS AT 3 MINUTES EVEN LESS AT 2 MIN, LESS AND LESS AS YOU APPROACH POST.

SUGGESTION TO OTHERS INTERESTED IN MAKING MONEY USING THIS KIND OF ENDEAVOR.. KEEP THE DAY JOB

You dont need no stinking slide rule

A simple chart suffices and is 100x faster

The rule is just a gimmick for rubes

I have a lot of fun with it but it's not "user friendly".

HERE IS MY EXACTA OVERLAY CHART FOR 6TH AT BELMONT ON 10-25-2018
THE 3/5 $1 TRACK EXACTA PAYOUT WAS $6.90
THE $1 WIN BET ON THE 3 HORSE WAS $3.50

THE $1 EXACTA FAIR VALUE WAS $6.72

THE TOTAL BET ON ALL OVERLAYS WAS $363, GIVING A $1 RETURN OF $2.05 ON THE EXACTA OVERLAY PLAYS

YOU WOULD HAVE DONE MUCH BETTER PLAYING THE 3 TO WIN
YOUR $1 RETURN WAS $3.50

THE BELMONT WIN POOL TAKEOUT IS 15%, THE EXAC17.5%

a couple of you misunderstood or I did not explain well enough. I know how to look at the probales, what I wanted was to be able to bet the 8th race around the post time of the 1st because I am working and cannot sit in front of the computer or get on my phone for one reason

Couldn't you use Formula's formula(see what I did there) and instead of actual odds use the ML odds? Should put you in the ballpark over a lot of races.(edit) and using Alton's idea, build a chart showing all possible ML Win odds on the left side with all the possible ML place horse odds at the top. It probably wouldn't hurt to have several charts, one with 6 or fewer horses, one with 7-8 horses and one with 9 or more horsew.

Estimated Winner's mutuel times Placer's mutuel has been useful for me, rounding both to whole dollars.

I have found that multiplying the win price by the place price of the horse coming in second consistently generates a reasonable estimate of the actual exacta payoff.
