Off turf days 62% of favorites win. On “regular” days only 28% off favorites win.

Good to know. Great job by Matthew DeSantis @failedtomenace

The reason I love turf racing is it’s just more complicated and competitive. Bigger fields . Of course , chalk is winning more on the inclement days . Field of 4 or less . In the turf races you get MTO’s with a distinctive advantage . You gotta play the short game and hope you can catch or mix one honest price in , maybe two if you’re lucky . And I’m talking 7/2 or 4-1 most likely . That’s if you can even find that . The bad weather NY has had this summer and early fall has been ridiculous. The fields are small to begin with and then come the scratches scramble .

Since the beginning of this year's Saratoga meet and through the first few days of Aqueduct. As by my counting there have been 74 races taken off the turf. 36 were won by the post time favorite (48.65%).

A flat $2 win bet: $148 bet, Returned $162 for a profit of $14.00 = ($9.46).

Small sample, but wonder if this is a longterm thing?
