The Xpressbet Beat the Host Contest
First week:
I beat the host and hit one race and the host hit NONE in all eight races!
That makes me eligible to compete in the finals on March 2.
What a joke.

Something just occurred to me yesterday, there is a way to play this contest strategically.
The host's picks are revealed ahead of time for all the races and I only have to play one race at a time.
Sounds like a problem for the host.

The challenge, however, is to go after 'Beating the Host' or playing for the top 3 weekly prize money. The strategies are different.

I am trying to see how many weeks I can beat the host … before waiting for final.
I hit a race early and could not decide if I should keep handicapping on my own or just bet theirs. I missed 3 winners later by betting theirs, but I beat the host and on to next week.

Millie Ball (the expert today) almost won the first race with a 9/1 maiden but ended up winning 1 race with a $6.60 win price.
So better than Jeremy Plonk from last week, but still probably over half the entries beat the host again today.
Next week will probably be harder with Jon White.

So far this week I'm 0/3 while the host won one race for a $3.60 payoff.
I see no reason not to continue.

That worked out pretty well.
Even though he was the favorite.

Looks like we have a Grade 2 sprint on the dirt in race 9.
I'm behind the host so I must not agree with him.

I "took a shot" at 14-1 but got beat by the 1-5 favorite.
Not sure if I'm sad or happy.

If you have already made the finals, and have no chance of beating the host the longest, you should change your strategy and go for the highest mutual that day.
Jon White had 3 winners for $10 mutual (3.6, 3.8, 2.8)
I beat them again today, 3 weeks in a row. I will count how many are still alive sometime this week.
