I don't have a strong opinion on Justify one way or the other. I think he's better than he looks on some speed figures, but I don't think he's as good as American Pharoah was at the same stage unless he's had minor issues he was running through during the Triple Crown. Baffert has a better line on the horse than anyone else. He knows what's actually been going on. IMO, if the horse is not gaining weight, getting stronger, and moving forward I don't think he's going to send him out there to embarrass himself against older horses even if he's sound.

Its their horse, they can do what they want. People make it sound like they have rights or something regarding other peoples money...wait, on second thought that makes perfect sense.

Gee, isn't that the idea of an investment? Not lose it?

Yes, it is.

It comes down to whether, or not, the connections have any integrity.
Did they ever have any intention of running the horse again?
Or, would they resort to falsely stating that the horse is injured?

It is their horse.
They pay the bills, they call the shots.
Unless you subscribed to their newsletter, they have no obligation to tell anything, true or not.

End of story.

And if you are looking for integrity, what the hell are you doing at the track?

This is not like some maiden who is sitting on a huge race,
so you work him before the sun rises under an oath of
secrecy for all those involved. This is a Triple Crown winner.

Yes - they can do as they wish.
The trainer, for one, has been down this road before.
If the horse is healthy and he's being retired, I think
he would not be afraid to say so.

But you don't know if he is injured or not, right?
Baffert said he is talking him to Del Mar and if he improves, he will start training there.

If he runs, he runs.
I would retire him. What has he got to prove?
OR better yet, how much more will he be worth?

You're right.
I would retire him too, if I was lucky enough to own him.

The injury would have to be extremely minor, and the horse
would have to be jumping out of his skin in training that
might make a win in the BC Classic a formality.

All in all, way too risky.

Bear in mind it is a sport and not merely an investment. Sure the horse is their property but if you just want to make money there are plenty of other ways to do that. Nobody can force owners to run horses, but people who do these early retirements are very bad for the sport and we can at least call them jerks who don't give anything back to the bettors and fans who make this all possible.

No, it is an investment. Owners breeders and teams.
Don't kid yourself.

It is only a sport for people who bet the normal way, through the windows of through and ADWs. And who give a crap about the game.

Latest from Baffert

I'd say Baffert is being up front about all of this.
He usually is.

Quote:
“Right now, we’re just looking to get him 100 percent,” Baffert said. Justify is currently under observation after filling was discovered in his left front ankle two weeks ago.

“I’d love to run him again, because he’s so much fun and exciting to watch. We should know more in a couple of weeks,” Baffert added.

Still time for the Goodwood (whatever it is called these days) and then the Classic. I'd love to see him run again. If not, oh well. Such is horse racing.

Without racing fans-betting and non-betting- their investments go away. So I would say they have an obligation to the sport that gives them these opportunities. And when they thumb their nose at that obligation they should be criticized.

I guess if I were a betting man, i'd bet that he wouldn't run again.

But I take Baffert at his word. No one wants to retire a healthy 3YrOld in the middle of the year, especially since he didn't run at two. Doesn't make breeding-shed sense. There's got to be something wrong with the horse. Bad break for the sport.
