Centering on the HORSE
for a few minutes here, we are approaching a most interesting time of the calendar year. As the summer venues will be ending soon they will be shipped to the tracks with the autmn dates. Some will be sent to farms for a rest, others will come in from the farms, and oh yes, the two year olds will be filling more and more stalls.
What was a coherent population is now dispersed, intermingled in new ways, and new coherent populations result.
While all reasonable means are used to prevent transmission of germs and viruses, this is also the time of year when many horses will pick up a "bug". That old expression 'healthy as a horse' really does have basis in observable history (albeit more and more distant ). These noble steeds will internally fight those "bugs" as long as they can but often the stress of racing will knock them down just enough that they will become sick. I try to evaluate performances accordingly.
I do think the best of two year old racing lays before us.
