Churchill Downs is close to an agreement that would allow the track to install an electronic real-time horse-tracking system in time for the opening of the spring meet on April 30 and the Kentucky Derby on May 7, officials of Churchill and the data company Trakus confirmed this week.

Article points out SA and GP (does this mean more responsible timing?) will be installing Trakus for their next meets.
I wonder when the DRF and Bris will start using Trakus? It's been at WO and KEE for quite awhile but hasn't been utilized although you can get the stats at the track's website.
I always wondered if stewards consulted trakus to get a "blimp" view on making "path" judgements for inquiries. Anyone know? I hypothesized that it might have been useful in the 'cap at SA.
I find it quite useful at Keeneland when the distance traveled relative to the winner is displayed after the race. Helps with "good trip" vs. "bad trip" notes, sometimes for several horses in the same race.
